'Inaya, why are you standing?' inquired Mr. Roy with much calm voice.
'I...I umm. There is no seat left in the bus'. I replied.
'Then sit here, no one is sitting here' Mr. Roy answered pointing towards the window seat besides him as he was sitting towards the isle.
By taking another glance around the bus in order to find any empty seat , I hesitantly crossed Mr. Roy and took over the window seat. Three more teachers were accompanying us in this trip but there were sitting in the front. Two of them, I recognized were from our department and the other one was probably from some other department.
Soon it started to rain and the pine trees along the roadside were tripping with water and it looked phenomenal.
'So , you like the rain, huh?' Mr. Roy asked.
What? Why is he making small talks? What does he want from me ? Or is he being genuinely nice? He must have an ulterior motive to this too.
'Yes, I really like the rainy season especially in this terrain.' I replied.
In normal plain terrains , rainy season looked beautiful , no doubt, but in hilly terrains like this with pine trees all over the roadside , the view is almost divine. And the main reason of liking the rainy season was, it washes all the dirt away ( metaphorically saying) and cleans us from all aspects. Or maybe I am a vampire, who knws!
'Where are you mainly from?' Mr. Roy asked completely interrupting my Twilight fantasies.
'Jammu!' I replied
'Oh the city of temples, it's really great place. I visited it couple of months ago.' he said
As I wanted to terminate this conversation , I simply nodded and put on my airpods and started listening to Starboy by The Weekend !
I woke up with a jerk and a hand patting on my cheeks.
'Wake up, Inaya!' a familiar voice suddenly drove me out of my sleep.
NO...No....No...! I had fallen asleep on Mr. Roy's shoulder! Why God? Why? This is soo embarrassing! Every student must be staring at me with suspicious eyes. I could feel the bile rising in my stomach , I had never been this embarrassed throughout my life.
'I am so sorry sir ,I didn't know how I fell sleep and landed on .."
He interrupted me mid sntence and simply gave a it'okay! look.
I totally avoided any further eye contact with Mr. Roy or any of the students in that department and looked out of the window tirelessly.
"There has been a landslide, students!' another voice announced , it must be the teachers sitting in the front.
'It looks like we have to stay in some nearby hotel till the road is clear for transportation. ' he added.
