The Perron family were on their way to their new Victorian house in Harrisvile Road Island. The drive from the big city had been long and all their five girls had fallen asleep, cradled by the swinging of their unsteady car and the bumpy road that seemed to have been plastered onto the ground since the Great War. Carolyn, the mother in the family, was the only one who couldn't settle into the thoughts of a new home.

She knew they would have it much better there and more money now that Roger had gotten a better job. The girls hadn't liked being ripped away from their old friends in such a short notice but Roger had convinced them that it would be fine. He turned away from the highway and onto a smaller road that went through a small town with little trees lining the pavement and flower shops that bravely shone through the dim sunlight with its colorful petals. It was beautiful. Behind the town were fields that stretched as far as she could see.

-Roger?

Carolyn said.

-what?

-Do you think they'll like it here?

-No doubt. The house is big enough for a swimming pool. I figured there will be two in each room and I'll let April have her own so there's space for her toys.

April was the youngest of the five children.

-And Sadie?

-There's a dog house on the lawn. There is nothing to worry about.

Carolyn smiled for herself, looking out the window.

-It looks nice.

-I know. We have our own lake just by the house.

-If we could only get a bigger car.

-We'll get there when we've settled.

Roger turned onto a long dirt road with big trees lining up the sides.

-Wake the kids.

He said, trying to hide his excitement.

-Why?

Carolyn asked and Roger turned to face her, his voice coming like a whisper of bliss.

-We're here.

The car came to a stop in front of a big white house. On the left side was the lake Roger had mentioned and on the right stood an enormous tree with long dark branches that stretched out towards the lawn where an old swing hung still. It was quiet and peaceful as if they were the only ones left.

Carolyn woke the girls and they tiredly opened their eyes before they saw what was their new home. The girls, all ran out with such energy you'd think they'd been up, waiting to get there.

-i'll get my own room!

April, the youngest of the girls shouted and ran past the other girls who were quick to protest.

-It's so beautiful, Roger.

Said Carolyn, opening the trunk to let the dog out without moving her gaze away from the house. The dog named Sadie barked a few barks before settling onto the lawn.

-I can't believe how we could afford this.

-It was cheap for some reason. Probably needs some renovation but nothing that we can't fix. I told you.
