Cindy's POV
Time had passed since the Homecoming and now fall break was tommorow. We finished our tests yesterday and I was currently seated on the bleachers as I watched the rather boring away game.
I'm not a hater of sports or anything, I just don't like watching football. And also, the opposite team is bad, like really bad.
I don't even know how it is scored. All I know is that the opposite team, have not scored anything and that people have cheered for Drake twice, and Danny once. So it should be like 3-0, if that's how they score it.
I sip my strawberry smoothie and sigh. Vincent turns to face me.
"You alright?"
"Yeah. But honestly, I'm bored" lindsay and he chuckles.
"I can tell u a story" he suggests and I scoff
"What am I, five?" I say and he laughs
"I actually want to tell you about this girl I like." He says and my ears shoot up. It's about time he shows interest in a girl.
"Who is it?" I squeal and he chuckles but his cheeks are now tinted with pink. Oh God she must be special.
"I knew that'd break you" He says.
"Yeah yeah, who is it?" I ask, impatiently and he turns red. First time! I've never seen him blush!
"You're gonna think I'm weird, but I'll tell you anyway. So... You know I'm italian right?" He asks and my face morphs in confusion.
"I didn't know that" I say and that's when I realise that I actually know nothing about this boys I call friends.
"Yeah? Well, I am. So, I moved from Italy when I was 12."
"But you don't have an accent, Funny Ryan is the one that does" I say and he laughs.
"Yeah, I don't know where he got his from, but I never really had the accent, it only comes out when I speak italian" He says and I nod.
"There's something I want to tell you. Something just Ryan and my family know" he whispers in my ear and I nod.
"What is it?"
"Vincent isn't my real name, well, I like to think it's the short form of my real name."
"Hmm?"
"Vincenzo" he says and I smile, I know little italian and I think it means, Victorious, as in, someone who always wins. It's a nice name.
"Vin-cen-zo, I like it" I say and he laughs.
"Okay, so when I moved here, I enrolled in a middle school and I met a girl, she was a year older than me, On my first day, my hair was really long, the back stopped at the base of my neck and the front was like, almost covering my eyes, but I left it that way because I was going through a lot..." he trails off and frowns, his eyes hazing for a second and then it clears up.
"Are you okay?"
"Yeah, those were just hard times. My mum left us, but I don't really care anymore" he says shrugging and I smile at him.
"So, the mystery girl?" I urge and he blushes harder.
"Right. Um, so, the principal called her and told her to show me round the school. That day, she was frowning and I think he called her from detention. As she came in the room, I was stunned. She looked like a goddess and she was just 13! She never smiled though, but I always wanted to make her smile. She was always getting into fights, she always wore all black and she was always chewing gum, coffee flavour, it was always coffee, but you won't know unless you really focused on her, which I found myself doing a lot. I knew other boys liked her too, my biology partner never stopped talking about her and I always wanted to strangle him. I found myself always glancing at her, looking for her long red hair anywhere in the crowd and that was when I knew that I had a crush on her, a HUGE crush. She always waved at me in the hallways though and she called me Shaggy, I hated it, but I loved when she said it, the way it rolled off her rosy lips, the way her lips only parted a little to say the 'a'. I was entranced, she was beautiful, inexplicably beautiful. I heard her laugh, once. Just once and it was like music to my ears. But she didn't come back to school again. After that day, she left me with a 'see you later' but I found out she was expelled, so I held it, as a promise that we were going to meet again." He finishes and is now beetroot red, scratching his forehead and looking away from me.
I watch the look in his eyes as he talks about her. And I'm pretty sure of the emotion I see there. He's in love with her, he just doesn't know it yet. I mean, it's been what? 5 and a half years and he still remembers her, he sounds so awestruck and I'm afraid that this girl has ruined him for any other girl, what if they never meet?
I sigh, Fate has a confusing strategy. I smile at him.
"Wow, you must really lo-like her" I say and he nods. People start cheering and I see Our team cheering for Drake and Danny, carrying them up. I smile, they won. I run down, and as Drake sees me, he smiles.
"You did great"
"Thanks, but I know you weren't watching" he say, laughing and I flush
"I-I was, Vincent jus-just, he just distracted me!" I stutter and internally groan and he smiles.
"I would give you a hug but I'm too sweaty" he says and I smile.
"Raincheck?"
"Raincheck" he repeats, nodding and runs to his team, shouting.
I laugh and go to my car and Wait. We came with two cars. Mine and Danny's. Ryan didn't come, he said he had something important to do. So the boys came with Drake and the girls with me.
I sit in the car and my phone rings, it's an unknown number. I hesitate but answer it.
"Hi?"
"Cindy! Thank God! Cindy, this is your music teacher" she pants out. What the-
"Oh."
"I know you're shocked, but I need your help, no, we need your help"
"Look, please, if this is about joining the music club, I'm so-"
"-Please, you don't have to join, I just need you to help us please"
"With what?"
"We're having a competition on the Saturday before the end of fall break. Two weeks from now, but something happened with China's voicebox. It's severe and she can't sing" she says and I frown. No wonder I didn't see her cheerleading today.
"Okay" I say and sigh.
"Really?!" She squeals so loud and I wince and rub my ear.
"Yes, but just this once"
"No problem, thank you, thank you so much!" She yells and I smile.
"No problem. When does practice start?"
"Tommorow. 4PM to 7PM"
"So, I'm basically spending all of my fall break practicing for a competition" I muse and she laughs
"It's just 3 hours of your day"
"Yeah yeah, bye" I say as I see the girls coming out with the boys.
I open the car and they enter, laughing.
"You ready?" I ask and they nod.
I start the car and speed off.
