CAROLINE JOHNSON

Our time in Daytona was a much needed break from the stress and chaos of the new store opening and helping to plan Haley and Jackson's wedding, which was only three weeks away. Now, Chase and I are in Indianapolis for the Brickyard 400, a race that has a lot of excitement and anticipation built up around it. Chase had left earlier this morning to go to some appearances and to his drivers meeting and I had decided to stay in the motorhome to work on some things for the wedding.

Once I had finished everything I needed to do, I decided to make lunch, so it was ready whenever Chase got back from drivers' meeting.

"There's my beautiful girl," I heard Chase's voice from behind me. I turned around and smiled when I saw him walk through the door.

"And there's my handsome guy," I said, wrapping my arms around his neck and placing a gentle kiss on his lips.

"What's for lunch?"

"Well, I was thinking sandwiches, but we can do something else if you want."

"No, that's perfect," Chase placed a kiss on my temple. "Do you mind making mine so I can get changed?"

"Not at all! What would you like on it?"

"Turkey, lettuce, cheese, tomato, mayo, and mustard," he said as he walked back to the bedroom.

"Coming right up!"

By the time that I had finished making mine and Chase's turkey sandwiches, he was dressed in his Kelly Blue Book firesuit and ready to eat.

"I think this might be the best turkey sandwich that I've ever had," Chase said with his mouth full.

"Well, what can I say? I am a master sandwich maker," I joked.

"I'll say," he said taking another bite from his sandwich.

We finished our lunch and then I got dressed in a pair of cut off denim shorts and one of Chase's retro t-shirts that I had stolen from his closet.

"You look better in my shirts than I do," Chase said when I walked back into the living room area.

"Oh, stop it."

"I'm serious," Chase stood up and walked over to me. "You look gorgeous."

"Well thank you," I blushed.

Chase smiled and leaned in to kiss my forehead - I closed my eyes and sighed in content. These are the moments that I cherish the most. In Chase's world, it's easy to feel like there's eyes everywhere, always watching you. But here, in this motorhome, it's just him and I; the outside world completely shut out. I always feel like the luckiest girl in the world when I'm in Chase's arms.

"Okay racer, it's time to go racin'."

Chase and I walked over to the grid and met up with Ryan, Gianna, William, Erin, Bubba, and Amanda and stood around talking for a while. The boys started planning a group vacation for when the season ended, before going to do driver intros, while us girls talked about the latest celebrity gossip.

When the boys got back from driver intros, Chase and I headed over to his car (that sat on the pole this weekend) and met up with his parents. Cindy and I talked while Bill gave Chase a few pointers and some encouraging words.

"Ladies and gentlemen, please rise as our colors are presented by the United States Army, Indianapolis Recruiting Battalion. We ask that you remain standing for our invocation delivered today by Mike Welsh, Pastor of ChristWay Baptist Church in Westfield, Indiana."
