The Next Day

The next morning you woke up feeling good.  You feel like you won't have a bad tic day.  After checking social media for a bit, you finally built up the energy to roll out of bed.  Wanting to stay in your pajamas longer, you brush your h/c hair, brushed your teeth, and all the other usual things.  Then it came time to change.  You changed into your uniform and ran out the door, not having breakfast.  As you were walking to school, you recognized a familiar black haired boy.  Since you had only met him yesterday, you didn't talk to him.

After walking for a while, he ran over to greet you.

"Hey y/n." he simply said

"Oh, hi Akaashi!" you replied rather quickly.

"Are you coming to practice again today?" he asks, trying to hide a hopeful tone.

"Um I'm not sure actually.  I'd have to ask Kaori if I can tag along."

"I'm sure that she be fine with it.  And if not, consider it an invitation from me" you blushed at his words.

For the rest of the walk, the two of you just made small talk, but surprisingly it wasn't as awkward as you anticipated... that is... until your stomach growled.

"Did you eat breakfast this morning?" Akaashi asks.  You blush at his question.

"Uhh no actually.  I wasn't that hungry this morning" you lied.  In reality, it's because you don't have much food at home so you couldn't make breakfast.

"Well you seem to be hungry now.  Do you have anything to eat?"

"uhm... no..." you simply said

"Here, have this granola bar" he then unzips his bag and pulls out a Nature Valley granola bar.

"No! It's fine! Really! I'll just grab something at cafe during break! You save that for yourself" you quickly replied

"I insist, I had a good breakfast this morning so I won't be hungry for a while" the way that his voice sounded caught you off guard.  He sounded so caring and reassuring, something you aren't used to.

You resisted for a little, but then took the granola bar from him.

"Thank you Akaashi" you blushed slightly and gave him a small smile

Once the both of you got to the school, you began going your separate ways.

"It was nice talking to you y/n.  I hope to see you at practice today." he said in a rather flat tone.

"Right back at ya!" you said, unsure of how to respond to that.

The day passed rather quick for you.  Thankfully, your teachers didn't assign much homework.  You stopped once you passed by the gym. 'Should I go?' you debated in your head. 'Well Akaashi did invite me so suppose it would be rude to not go' you then built up the courage and pushed the doors open.  You walked in and all eyes were on you.  You stood there, questioning if this was a good idea.

"y/n, I'm glad you could make it" Akaashi calls out with his same bored expression.

This gave you more confidence as you walked in.  You sent him a small smile.  Kaori had been in the storage room getting the balls for practice.  While Bokuto and Akaashi set up the net, you stood where Kaori would usually be.  Right as the boys finished setting up the net, Kaori enters the room and had a surprised look on her face the moment she saw you.

"Y/n!  You came again!" Kaori called out in a happy tone, sending you a big smile.

She quickly explained to the boys what they were going to be doing.  Kaori's phone rang and she ran over to bench to see who it was.  Once the call ended, she look stunned and panicked.

"Y/n I really have to go.  My grandmother is in the hospital, I'm leaving them to you" she quickly spat out, pointing towards the boys.

She ran out the door and the gym was silent.

"Is she okay?" Bokuto asked.

"Uhmm... yea... a family emergency came out" you said quietly, but still loud enough for them to hear.

"So who is going to toss us the balls?" a player chimed in.

"Oh uhm I'm not sure.  I don't really have much experience in v-v-volleyball" you stuttered while trying to suppress a tic.

"It isn't hard actually.  You just have to toss the ball to the setter and we will take it from there" Bokuto stated.

"Okay then... I'll do it!" you said with a hint of confidence in your voice.

You stood where they told you can threw the ball to the setter, Akaashi.  'Damn' you thought, you had thrown it too low.  After a couple more tries, you got it right.  For the rest of the evening you continued to toss Akaashi balls, which he set to Bokuto, and in turn he would spike.  The rest of the club had broken into small groups and were practicing whatever they needed improvement on.  They hadn't actually played any games since Kaori left early.  Practice had been ending and everyone started to clean up just like usual.  You looked at Akaashi and saw the sweat glistening on his skin. 'He looks so cute right now' you thought to yourself.  You were lost in thought.

"y/n?... y/n!" you heard a voice call out.  You then snapped out of your trance.

"Sorry! What was that?" you quickly said, straightening your back.

"I was asking if you want to walk home together since we live pretty close" Akaashi asked

"Y-yea! Sure!"

"Alright, let me just go get changed and I'll meet you outside the gym"

You then headed outside, waiting for Akaashi to finish changing.  After two or three minutes he came outside and locked the gym doors.

"All set. Thanks for waiting" Akaashi said in a flat tone.  You responded with a smile.

"So what was going on with Kaori? Is her family okay?" he asked with a curious tone.

"She said something about her grandmother being in the hospital, but she was talking fast so I couldn't understand much"

"Oh I see"

The two of you talked about volleyball for a while and Akaashi told you about some of basics to volleyball.  You were about halfway home when your tics starting to flare up.  You twitched you head slightly and scrunched up your face.

"Woooo!! Y-y-you're mean! *tongue clicks* ch-checkmate! Eeeee!-" You started saying a bunch of non-sense from your tics.

"What?" Akaashi asked, confused as to why you would call him mean.

"N-no! I didn't call you mean!- Wooo!- It was just a tic!" you tried explaining, waving your arms around frantically.

"Ohhh, sorry I wasn't aware that you say things as tics" his voice sounded relieved.

"No it's fine don't worry about- I-I-I l-love youuu -it!" you blushed at that tic.  You could tell that Akaashi was trying to hide a small blush too.

The both of you just shook it off and continued walking home.  Just as the both of you were going different directions Akaashi turned around and called out to you.

"Y/n uhmm I was wondering if you'd like to stop by the cafe with me tomorrow morning before school starts" he said a little nervously

"Y-yea! I'd love too!" you stuttered, happy by his offer.

"Alright, see you then"

You got home and went straight to bed, eager to meet with Akaashi in the morning.
