Sometimes I think what would have happened if Zain had stayed here and didn't join the mafia we would have been married and happy. But he chose his work over me. The naive brain of my mine sometimes imagines what if he leaves his criminal organisation and comes back to me.
Now I understand that we have to close some doors by our selves, it's better to face the agonising truth rather than spending your whole life chasing after an illusion. So I stopped thinking about him altogether. But now after seeing him again it was difficult to control my thoughts and emotions.
Thankfully I had a packed schedule today and I was so busy that I didn't have enough time to ponder over these thoughts and feelings. Medical life is nothing like what they show in tv shows. We watch medical dramas like greys anatomy on TV all the time, get inspired and actually decide to become a doctor, but I repeat it's nothing like the TV shows. I was a trainee so other than my duties in wards and OPDs I had to teach third year and fourth year medical students.
A patient in the ER required blood transfusion and I was demonstrating the students how to establish an IV and all the do's and don'ts of the procedure. These third year students were very excited and hyper to learn about that as in desi households and relatives whenever somebody gets to know that you're studying medicine they always ask do you know how to give an injection or how to insert an IV. I don't know how it happened but when I told one of the students to hand me the blood bag, he slipped on something and threw the bag on me with such force that it got stuck in the instruments I was holding and burst all over me. I was literally covered in blood, there was blood all over my lab coat, my clothes, neck, only half of my face was spared. Everyone's horrified gaze was on me, there was pin drop silence. With the patience of a saint I told another colleague of mine to do the job while I consoled the patient and the students that sometimes these human error occurs so we have to be careful and do everything in a calm and collected method. Someone passed a handkerchief to me but I was only able to wipe my face with it.
I stomped towards the meeting room of our department which had a washroom and was usually empty and I didn't want to encounter anyone, still I was met with the horrified and shocked gazes of the nurses and doctors during my walk of shame and I briefly told them the incident.
"Uff I didn't sign up for this, now I have to change my clothes or better take a bath this smell is nauseating. Why the hell do these junior's behave like this. Stupid. This whole day is stupid." I was mumbling angrily while entering the meeting room and locking it behind me.
I was still mumbling when I heard, " Where are you coming from Mehmil? A war zone?" I looked up and saw Dr Adil the head of medicine department sitting with none other than Zain and two of his gang members whom I recognised as his second in command, best friend Ashar and the person who looked over our city in absence of Zain. I didn't recognise the other man. I was still fuming over the incident and his comment just added fuel to the fire.
"No I actually took a bath in the blood as it produces collagen, tightens and heals the skin." I told him seriously.
I could feel Zain's intense gaze on me as he stood up from the chair, came closer to me and asked, "What the hell happened to you? Who did this?"
I ignored him and explained the whole incident to Dr Adil who was smiling a the end of the story.
Zain interjected, " I never knew doctors play paint ball with blood bags in this hospital ." And smirked at me.
I rolled my eyes at their amusement and left the room to change peacefully at another place.
But who knew peace was never an option.A/N the blood bag scene actually happened with someone I know. A patient in psychiatry ward intentionally threw the bag on him with force.
