His promise

Chapter 7

My mother was very happy after meeting with Faraz and his family. She was saying we are a great match and was praising Faraz constantly. Everyone decided we should get engaged at the end of the month. They were excited and were preparing for the event. My brother was teasing me saying how he will live peacefully and turn my room into his gaming room after my marriage.

I spent my whole weekend watching horror movies. These movies don't even scare me anymore. I have heard people who sleep peacefully after watching horror movies are psychopaths. Hopefully I am not one of them. When you have seen or experienced horrible things in life these ghosts don't even scare you anymore. Humans seem more scary than them.

From my early days of university I have been part of a society that helps people in their medico legal cases for example we help people who are abused . We are a team of doctors, therapists and lawyers. I have seen rape victims, victims of domestic abuse and stuff which have made me sick of the human race. But on the other hand we're the part of the same race I have also seen some good people here who selflessly help others.

I hate going to work on Monday. A patient came saying she has pain in her jaw and is unable move her jaw. Upon asking she told us that her husband had slapped her. He had hit her so forcefully that she had pain while opening and closing her jaw. She was not allowing us to report him and file a case on him. Sara started lecturing her and told her that we'll help her in every way but she refused and told she has 4 children can't afford separation from her husband. We treated her and informed the management about this case. But you can't actually do anything without patient's consent. We gave her all the guidelines which stated the emergency contacts told her to contact us anytime.

The thing with the abuse victims is that you should never force them to leave the abuser (unless it's life threatening), it should be their own decision. Your responsibility is to be there for them, keep a check on them, convince them to leave , show them the pros and cons. It is sometimes frustrating when they still decide to live with the abuser but we have to be patient with them.

I was leaving the hospital thinking about this case and how some woman in our society decide to suffer due to their family problems and other reasons ,when out of nowhere Zain came and started dragging me towards his car. I was struggling to get out of his hold.
" Zain what is this behaviour leave my hand."

He opened the passenger door and said, "Keep quite and sit in car I have to talk to you."

I glared at him, "I will not go anywhere with you. How much do you want to talk seriously. We have already talked enough."

He tapped the door and said, "Sit Mehmil, don't make me more furious."

I took a step back to go back to the hospital but saw he his guards were present near the entrance. I folded my arms and said, " I'm not going anywhere."
Zain gave me an unimpressed look and said "Ok then" and shoved me in the car.
He rounded the car and sat in the driving seat

I furiously banged the door and said, "What is your problem why can't you leave me alone."
He came closer to me while looking at me intensely and fastened my seatbelt "Do you think I'll let you go that easily?" I gulped and averted my eyes.

" Do you think I'll let you play doctor doctor with that loser?" He said moving back to his seat .

I looked at him in shock.
" Yes I know about these shenanigans. I did a mistake by waiting for you and giving you time while you decided to betray me." He banged his hand on the steering wheel.

"What betrayal huh? We weren't together to begin with. My parents have fixed my marriage with him and I'll honour their decision." I spat.

He breathed in slowly and turned towards me said, " Mehmil what about us? Ask yourself will you be happy with anyone else except me. Tell me honestly don't you still have feelings for me."

I looked at him stubbornly and said, "No I don't have any feelings for you."

Zain smirked, " You looked me in the eyes for a little too long to not to have feelings for me. Trust me I will keep you happy and I'll keep you away from my business which you are against of."

I shook my head ,"If I break my parent's trust how can I expect that you'll not break mine."

He sighed frustratedly," I already asked your father about our marriage but he denied now I have no choice but to do it my way."

He started driving . I gulped in fear and asked, "Where are we going?"
He stated calmly, "To the court for our marriage."
My jaw hung open while I stared at his calm demeanour, "Are you crazy Zain? Let me go home now!"

"No can do sweatheart you forced my hand. And don't try to do anything smart if you want the safety of your family and that loser doctor." He said while gesturing to the gun strapped to him.

"Are you threatening me? Do you think this gun is your magic wand you'll wave it and all your wishes will come true?"

He said ,"I'm just warning you and you'll be surprised the things this mere gadget can do."

I mumbled, "I don't think anything can surprise me anymore."

I started sweating and thinking of ways to get out of this situation. I saw how there were his cars surrounding us and my chances of getting out this situation were diminishing.

I placed my ego on the side and softly said," Zain please don't do it my parents will be crushed. I'll never forgive you for this."

He looked at my panicked and teary face and sighed heavily. He reversed the car while saying," I'm just doing for this the old time's sake and because I love you . We'll be marrying by the end of this week don't expect anything else from me."
I sighed in relief when I saw we were going towards my house.
