-10 years prior-

I stand at the opening of the training center in District 1. The large grey building's windows reflect the sun and shine in my eyes. This is where I will spend the next eight years training. I can always volunteer when I'm seventeen, but your supposed to wait till your eighteen.

My older brother, Gamien, stands next to me holding my hand. He is fourteen, he's seven years older than me. I have a little sister as well, but she's five and she can't train yet.

"I'm nervous." I state and look into the green eyes of my brother. Gamien chuckles and pats my back, telling me that there was no need to be nervous, I will find my weapon.

We enter the building, hand in hand, and he lets go and goes straight for the large, sharp swords that hang on a rack to the back of the room. I go over to a sign that says 'new trainees' in the middle of he room. Children of ages 7-8 stand there, cracking jokes and talking up a storm. I stand there, having no friends, and I keep to myself.

"Hi." I turn around and see a light brown haired boy that was a little taller than me.

"I'm Marvel," the boy informs and sticks out his hand for me to shake it. "Glimmer." I respond and shake his hand briefly.

"Are you new here as well?" He asks me and I nod my head. "How old are you?" I ask curiously.

"Eight. How about you?"

"Seven." I reply.

"Maybe we can be friends." He smiles.

"Friends... I like that." I say and gleam.

"Attention new trainees! Come to the center of the room and get ready to figure out you weapon you will mainly train with."

Swords? Too heavy. Javelins? Too large for my small frame. Throwing knives? Absolutely terrible. Can't even hold hem right. Throwing axe? Same with knives. I've gone through more than half the weapons, and I can't find mine.

I walk over to the maces, the spiked balls on the chain and stick. Those are heavier than the swords. Then I see the battle axes. I pick the smallest one up and it feels natural in my hand. I whack the dummy and it goes through the arm. It feels so much different than the other weapons. The only problem, I hate blood. This weapon will be really bloody. That's when I spot the archery area. Not bloody.

I pick up the bow. Not natural. I aim and fire.

I'm going to have to stick with the battle axes. I aimed for the bullseye, and I almost hit the trainers head, 15 feet from the target. But the blood, it's my fear. I hate the sight of blood. Yet I'm training for a bloodbath. Oh my life...

Maybe I'll use archery as my second weapon. Hopefully they will allow it.

"Hi I wanted to do two weapons. The axes and archery. I just wanted to get better at it. my main weapon would be axes though." I inform the main trainer. She nods her head in response.

I go over to see Marvel at the spear section. he is throwing and getting the third ring from the bullseye. Pretty good for an eight year old first timer.

"Hey Glim! What's your weapon?" He turns to me and smiles. "I am using the battle axes and the bow and arrow." I say

"Really two weapons? Cool! The only other person that did that was Gloss." He says as we walk out of the training center.

"See you tomorrow Marv!"

"See ya Glim!" And we already have nicknames.

We part our ways and I head over to the richest part of the district. I walk up to the largest house and walk into the doors.
