'Nothing is so painful

to the human mind as

a great and sudden

change.'

- Mary Shelley

. . .

By the time they reached Rixon's Cove, night had fallen and a chill was beginning to settle in, until the sun rose once again. The thin dress Rip was wearing, did nothing to ward it off and goosebumps rose up on her skin.

The boys instantly set about making a campfire and once it's lit, Rip makes her way over, savouring the warmth that licks her body. The light catching the small jewelled blue flowers that Kie had woven into her hair for the party.

"Hey, guys." Pope started, throwing another branch into the flames. "So, like, my dad's already gonna kill me. So what's this mandatory meeting about?"

JJ, who had changed out of his 'stuffy waiter's garb', now in his usual attire, glanced over at John B. "Might as well tell him, man, before we're gaffed."

"You ready for this?" John B questioned them all.

Rip just looked over at him, not entirely sure what her answer was going to be. She'd already decided that she couldn't be involved in the hunt for the gold anymore. She couldn't be anywhere near it. If someone else died, then she'd be done for.

But John B told them all anyway, despite her hesitation. He told them how the gold never went down with the Royal Merchant and how it had been hidden on the island the entire time. He showed them the ship's manifest that didn't include slave's as passengers and a letter from a man named Denmark Tanny, who had been a slave on the Royal Merchant and he was the only one that had survived. Denmark Tanny had apparently bought a farm, Tannyhill Plantation, freed even more slaves using his money and sold rice until white people had him killed. It was the day that they came for him did he write that letter for his son and in said letter, he left a coded message about where to find the gold.

Rip tilted her head up to the sky. The light from the fire made the deep blue black of the night sky take over, hiding the stars that she knew were there.

"So all we need is an original survey map of the property, and we've found the gold." John B grinned, his arms spread wide.

"Okay, so this might have a small chance of being actually true." Pope sighed.

JJ stood up from his log.

"I am a genius." John B grinned only to have JJ wrap his arms around him in a firm hug. "Hey, woah. Hello! Fire! You're near the fire. You're gonna burn."
