After a talk during breakfast, Twilight and Mabel's punishment was to do all the chores around the shack for the rest of the week... and Twilight wasn't allowed to use her powers to make it fast. It wasn't like she done it before, but Ford knew she might've thought about it while cleaning the roof. Right now she just finished restocking the shelves after a rush, stretching her arms out after putting the last of the snow-globes on display.
But just as she got off the step ladder, it seems another task was around the corner.
"Alright kid, here's your last task of the day. Go out into the forest and put up these signs."
Twilight takes them from Stan, adjusting them to where she was comfortable carrying them.
"Is Mabel not available?" She asked, wondering what she was doing.
"She's busy cleaning the roof. Which leaves only you to put up the signs."
"Understood."
She walks out into the forest to replace the old withering signs with the new ones. She just needs to bear through the chores a little longer... just this and one more day, and she and Mabel are free. She had finished putting up the last sign and breathed a sigh of relief. She was feeling hungry so she pulled out the lunch she made earlier and sat down on a nearby log. Her lunch contained two sandwiches and crackers as she pulled out one of them out and began eating.
Twilight must admit, Ford sure knows how to make a good sandwich. And it was a nice day to eat outside, cloudy and a bit cooler than most Summer days. However, she didn't notice a baby creature waddling out of a nearby tree to where she was. She saw it from the corner of her eyes and almost dropped her food from the sight of it.
The creature was... bizarre, to say the least. It looked to have a beaver tail and webbed feet, it was red patterned with horizontal stripes on it's coat. It tried to climbed up on her leg but failed, getting back up and trying again. Twilight smirked, wondering what it could possibly want from her. Then she looked at the sandwich in her hands, holding it over the strange creature.
"Is this what you want?" She asked.
The only response she got was another attempt to climb up. She giggled and breaks a part of her lunch off, placing it on the ground as she watches it gobble it up. She pets it's back, catching a whiff of maple syrup and bacon coming from the creature. She couldn't leave it all alone, and maybe Ford might know a thing or two about it.
After waiting for the creature to finish her sandwich, she gets up and gently grabs it. She places it in the hoodie of her jacket, allowing it to ride on her shoulder.
"C'mon. Let's go see Ford."
~~~
Twilight made it back to the Mystery Shack, making sure nobody saw her new friend as she traveled to the basement when the gift shop was empty. She found Ford and Dipper looking over some papers when she came down.
"Hey guys! You'll never believe what I found when I was finishing up my chores." Said Twilight, moving back some of her hair to show off the creature. "While I was having lunch, this little guy came out of nowhere and wanted some of my sandwich."
She felt the creature climb on top of her shoulder as the Scientist dropped the papers he was holding.
"Is that... A Plaidypus?"
"A what?" Dipper asked.
"A Plaidypus. A Platypus with a flannel pattern on it's coat, and this one appears to be a baby at that. And you said you found it on it's own?" Ford asked Twilight, kneeling down to get a good look at the infant Plaidypus.
