Andrej's POV
The property looks too eerie especially from the back. The closer I get to the house the more my phone acts up.
'Damn. Must be a high power jammer. I should back up a bit and call for reinforcement before I get to the house.'
I back the pickup to the edge of the property closer to the beach and dial the local EMS.
"I need police and an ambulance to 2275 Botanical Garden Lane. Hurry! Shots fired!" I keep the phone on but place it in my pocket.
'Here comes the calvary!'
Jess's POV
'Awesome. I'm loose. Now all I need is a distraction then Asshole is gonna get the ass whuppin of a lifetime.'
Andrej's POV
I secure my bag as I creep closer to the back of the house where the door is ajar. The door squeaks a bit as I open it to shoulder width. I wait a bit to see if anyone heard the squeaking.
'So far so good. Maybe, nothing is wrong. I want to believe that more than my gut. Too bad my gut is saying I need to hurry.'
I slowly make my way into the dark house. I dodge every creaky noise making floorboard. I sweep through the rooms as I make my way to the front of the house. There's blood in the master bedroom.
'Shit! Hopefully that's not a critical wound. The situation just got more dangerous.'
The closer I get to the front of the house the more anxious I get. My fight or flight instinct is being triggered. Lowered voices reach me in the hallway from the front room. One is definitely Judith and the other is male.
'Where's Jess?'
I reach into my bag and pull out a homemade smoke grenade; I roll it gently down towards the front room. All hell breaks loose. Bullets come zinging towards me shot blindly by Keith. One of my stray bullets shatters a window. I hear screeching from both women.
"Listen, Keith. Don't do this. Why would you want to ruin your career? Over a woman? Really?" I call down the hall as I make my way closer. Another shot rings a little closer to me. I toss another smoke grenade.
"Who the fuck are you? Another of Judith's playmates? You don't know me or about my career! I suggest you leave before I put a bullet through your skull. Better yet, come here and sit next to the Butch. I'll put one bullet through both your skulls." Keith wheezes.
"I don't think you'll be killing anyone tonight. You son of a bitch!" I say storming into the room. I duck Keith's shot and tackle him. I wrestle his gun away from him. Keith throws a vicious elbow at my face. I lean away and it grazes my chest. Keith' s quite a dirty fighter. He rolls on top of me and throws blows at my face and chest. I deflect a couple but most hit home. He gets up and kicks out at me. I grab his foot and yank dislocating his ankle.
"Arghh! Fuck!" Keith limps to the couch.
'Couch? Where are the girls?!'
Jess's POV
'Dre to the rescue!'
Andrej comes crashing into the room narrowly missing the shot from Keith's gun. I take off my restraints and work on Judith's. Judith is no help right now; she's in shock. I drag out the front door and to the nearest vehicle.
"Judith!! I need you to listen. Inside the truck is a GPS. Follow the marked destination; it will take you to Dame." At the sound of Dame's name, Judtih snaps out of her shocked state.
"Dame? Oh G-d! What about Andrej? What about you?"
"Don't worry bout us. We can handle Keith."
"No no no. He shot you! You need medical attention! Please come with me?" Judith begs.
"I can't, love. I have to make sure he never bothers us again and I can't do that if I'm worrying about you and Dame. Go! I'll be there soon, I promise." I push Judith into the car and slam the door signifying the end of our conversation. I lean into the window and kiss Judith with all that I am. Hopefully, it's not the last time. Judith flies down the driveway and out of my sight. With all the activity going on my adrenaline starts flowing. I can barely feel the gunshot wound. I walk back in the house to see a bloody Andrej on the floor and a moaning Keith on my couch. The sight would have been hilarious under a more auspicious occasion. I pick up Keith's discarde gun and aim it towards while I check on Andrej.
"Hey."
"Hey. Told you I always have your back." Dre jokes. He has a couple of superficial lacerations on his face and neck.
"Anything hurts?"
"Everywhere."
"I meant specifically, dumbass."
"No. Remind to have Judith do the eulogy when the time comes."
"Sure. She'll have plenty of practice cause she's doing Keith's in the coming week." Dre and I share a belly laugh much to Keith's chagrin.
"You think you could pull the trigger, bitch?! You can't. I'm the law, you can't fight the law." Keith boasts. I get up from off the floor facing him.
"The Clash was wrong. I fought the law and you lost. You lost your career, your wife, your son, and soon enough your life." I goad.
"Wrong! I'll always be her husband and his father. You don't have the equipment, Butch. And you won't have them either." Keith shifts and pulls another handgun from his pocket. He gets a quick shot off that hits me square in the chest at the same time my shot hits him dead to rights in the head.
"No!!!" Andrej screams from the edges of my tunnel vision.
'Damn! It got cold quick. At least I loved before I died.'
