Chapter 4: The Devil's Garden

Sorry this one took a while. Had a bit of writer's block, so apologies if the chapter seems a bit sloppy.

Kaito wasn't sure if he was awake or asleep. Either way, he didn't want to get out of bed. He wasn't even sure what the time was. It was like he was locked in time, a limbo of some kind. His body felt incredibly heavy and the churning in his stomach seemed to have gotten worse overnight. He knows that he needs to consume blood the minute he gets the chance. However, he's not sure if he can bring himself to do it. All that he could think about was the incident that took place. It still plagued his mind. No matter what he position he tried to lie in, he couldn't get his sin out of his mind. He wants to forget everything about it.

"Kaito!"

He ignored the knocking at his door and his name being called out. Right now, he just wanted to be alone. He's not sure how he'll handle being around people at the moment. For he knows he could be driven mad and end up accidentally killing someone, thus exposing who he really is.

"Is everything okay?"

No. Everything's not okay. And Kaito isn't even sure if anything will be again. He buried his face in his pillow, trying desperately to get some sleep. He could hear faint voices and an odd noise at his door, but he ignored it. He just needs to sleep this fatigue off right now. Just let him drift away. Just let him think for once that he was the only human in existence.

"Kaito?!"

Kaito jumped immediately when someone suddenly shook him awake. He looked around, noticing Shuichi right away. He noticed that his door was wide open as well. Students were walking past his room, completely ignoring what was going on in the room.

"How the fu-" Kaito started to ask, knowing that he made sure to lock his door the night before. That's when he heard a familiar laughter and Kokichi creepily looking from behind Shuichi. Realising what had just happened, Kaito slammed his face back down into the pillow. "He picked the lock, didn't he?"

"Sorry." Shuichi shrugged. Kaito grumbled a little before he lifted his head up. As he rubbed the sleep out of his eyes, he knew that there was no way that he'd get out of this one now. He glanced over at the clock on his desk, noticing that there was only an hour left for him to freshen up and have breakfast before his first lesson.

"Whoa! Kaito! You look like death itself right there!" Kokichi laughed, pointing at the drained look on Kaito's face.

"Do you mind?! I don't want any of your BS today." Kaito shouted, already feeling like he was on his last nerve. Kokichi only giggled more as he dashed away. Shuichi followed but only to close the door and lock it. He looked over at Kaito, who sluggishly sat up and ran his hand through his bed head hair.

"Ignore him, Kaito." Shuichi sighed, before he studied the state that his friend was currently in. "He does have a point though. You don't look so good."

"I'm fine. Just...tired. Spent too much time studying last night." Kaito sighed, rubbing his face in his hands. He held back a flinch as he could still faintly smell the blood on his hands. Wanting to get it off him, he grabbed fresh clothes. He picked up the hoodie he had discarded on the floor last night. He didn't want his friend to see the state of the item of clothing right now.

"You sure?" Shuichi asked as his friend swiftly disappeared into the bathroom.

"Yeah, I just need a shower." Kaito hastily said, locking the door behind him and turned on the shower. At first things seemed to be normal but as Shuichi heard the water running, he started to become unconvinced. 'No. Something's wrong. There's something...dark about him.' He thought after a couple of seconds. Deciding to wait patiently, he sat down on the bed. He thought that it would be best to wait here in case Kaito asked for anything.
