I AM SO SORRY FOR THE WAIT! Like I said, I was trying to do something for my Tumblr blog for Halloween, and I needed all of my focus on that. I also needed to take a break from this story because I had a bit of writer's block. CURSE YOU WRITER'S BLOCK!!!
I hope you guys like the chapter. I hope it doesn't suck.
(Also, I don't think I deserve it, but thank you for the 470+ reads)
The final preparations were almost complete now. The festival was only two days away. The stalls had been finished, along with the stage. The only thing left to do was to put flyers at each stall for the school and the events going on at the festival. Food stalls were set up for everyone to eat and games for anyone to play too. Everyone was immensely proud of their hard work, wanting to see how well the success of the festival will go. Stringed lights, held inside paper lanterns, were strung up above the area. The hanging lights to help light up the festival on opening night shined brightly like street lamps. Combined with the city lights, they out shined the stars (much to Kaito's disappointment) making the sky look like black ink from a pen.
The festival surely promised to be a success. However, amongst the excited chatter between the students there was this silent, but obvious worry. The recent attacks seemed to have slowed down, but they were still rising. There was even one that occurred during a home invasion. It did bring fear into the city. Half of the workers even quit the nighttime shift in fear of being the next victim. There were rumours that the festival might be cancelled, but it's too late now by this point.
"Looks like everything's perfect." Kaede comments, looking at the end results in awe. As almost all of his classmates agreed with her, Kaito remained uncharacteristically silent. It wasn't because he wasn't happy that the preparations went perfect. He was proud of the hard work that everyone had put in. He was silent because he was secretly worried about the recent murders and what might happen during the festival. Humans and vampires would be mixing together. It would be perfect for Vampire Hunters to strike and possibly escape flawlessly. It was quite scary to think about.
"Hey, Kaito. Are you going to be alright? You've been acting stranger than usual as of late." Shuichi suddenly asked, snapping Kaito out of his thoughts. Kaito couldn't help but curse Shuichi's detective skills. It's not a bad quality for his friend to have. However, it does get harder and harder to keep the fact that he's a vampire hidden, especially now of all times.
"What do you mean?" Kaito asks, raising an eyebrow in confusion. Shuichi would've answered but Kaito continued. "I get that you're worried about me and all, but I'm fine. I've ju-" Before Kaito could finish his sentence, the lights suddenly went out. Not just the hanging lights, but at least a mile radius of the city from the park suddenly went out. Out of the screams, Kaito clearly heard the panicked voices of his friends.
"Nyeh! What's going on?"
"I'm not sure. Everyone! Try to stay together! Another murder might happen!"
"Keebo! Help me find the damn generator! I can fix the shitty thing! I just need your flashlight function!"
"Would the cumdumpster be able to do it?"
"Cu-cu-CUMDUMPSTER?!?!"
"Not now, Kokichi!"
"Besides, it would be best if we stick together for now!"
As everyone called out to each other, making sure they were all together, Kaito scanned the crowd carefully. Thanks to being a vampire, he was able to see perfectly in the dark as he would in daylight. Every person in the park was running around, stumbling and crashing into each other. Of course everyone would be panicking. There's no way that this blackout was an accident. The recent murders were struck in the dark. Only one question remained. Was it the Vampire Hunters behind this? Or was it other vampires? Vampires were a slim possibility, it hasn't been unheard of that vampires would cause a blackout for the soul purpose of hunting humans. With that fear in mind, Kaito quickly looks back at all his friends and classmates. Everyone seemed to still be there, huddling tightly together to make sure nothing happened to them. However, there was one person he tried to spot. Maki. Kaito scanned the darkness for her. She wasn't in the group. She wasn't at her stall. Where was she?! He needs to find her. He needs to know if she's okay. Spotting Rantaro, he crept over to him as discreetly as he could. He doesn't trust Kiyo, but he trusted Rantaro. He needs to find Maki, but he can't do it without drawing too much suspension on himself.
