I love a good South African crunchie, I remember making them with my grandma when it was school holidays. These are really delicious and smell of sugary golden syrup.

Ingredients
*200 grams butter
*1 tablespoon golden syrup (or honey)
*2 cups oats
*1 cup coconut
*1 cup flour
*3/4 cup brown sugar‌
*1 teaspoon bicarb

Method

Preheat the oven to 180°

Mix the flour, oats and coconut in a bowl

Melt the butter, syrup and sugar in a small pot.
When the butter starts to bubble add the bicarb and stir.

Remove from the heat immediately.
Pour the butter mixture into the dry ingredients and mix with a spatula.

Using the back of a spoon, gently press the mixture into a greased baking tray (30cm x 20cm or similar depending on how thick you like the crunchies).

Bake for 15 minutes at 180 C, then turn the oven down to 160 C and bake for a further 10 minutes until golden brown.
