Makipkip is something I grew up eating, it's a sugar coated sweet popcorn that I remember buying from an aunty (the South African polite way of addressing an older women) after school.Ingredients
*3 cups of already popped popcorn
* 4 tablespoons of butter
* 125ml sugar
* 125 ml glucose (in South Africa we don't get glucose so you can use golden syrup)
* food coloring
*any extract of your choice
*1/2 teaspoon bicarbonate of sodaMethod
Combine the butter, sugar and syrup in a saucepan and cook over medium heat until boiling.
Boil for about three minutes, stirring constantly until it becomes foamy.
Remove off the heat and stir in food coloring, bicarb and flavoring. The bicarb will make the mixture puffy- do not be alarmed.
Add the sugar mixture over the popcorn and mix till well coated.
Place popcorn on a baking sheet lined with baking paper and bake for 30 minutes. This insures the popcorn won't go stale too quickly.
Allow to cool completely and store in a air tight container for optimal freshness.
