(A/N I might be making a new "book" for the short stories that I have written, I think that they are decently entertaining and I'm not going to put them here, so I might take out the 2 short stories here and put them in the new book.)
After the first half of classes, Cassie headed down to the cafeteria to the table by the vending machine to find Dax sitting at the table waiting for her. She sat down in front of him starting to open up the paper bag that contained her lunch when Dax finally spoke.
"So are you gonna explain?" he said. "oh yeah" she chuckled a little bit, "I guess that was a bit sudden of me, but I do think it would be a good idea to find that guy sooner or later." she said. "I do to, but it still seems a bit rash, don't you think?" after having said this, Cassi became visibly upset. "Look Dax! we both have the same, condition, and we both have had it for a long time! so haven't you ever wanted just a small chance, even a microscopic chance to being normal like everyone else for once?!" He had a deep look of understanding on his face but stayed silent, "What about your family? Don't you want them to not have to worry about you any longer?" He perked up at this. "Alright fine," he said with a slight smile on his face, "But you have to promise we are going to read up more about this guy, where he is, and our plan for getting there before we do anything, got it?" "fine." she replied, "then we're starting to plan our research when we get to next class." "alright then." and they shook on it, the glitch connecting their hands confirmed it.
"So," Cassi said as they started to get into their lunches, "how come when I mentioned family you were on board?" This caught him a little off guard. "Oh, um well, I don't usually talk about it but my mom is on a bit of hard times and I don't want her to have one more thing to worry about on top of everything." "Oh, sorry, I won't bring it up again." she said quickly. "Your fine," he said to her, "but what about you, why so obsessed with being normal?" Now it was his turn to catch her off guard, she choked on her yoghurt a bit but then got out, "Oh, well, everyone else just seems so happy to be, just happy all the time I guess." "hm," he says, as though processing her answer.
BEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEP
That was the bell signifying that lunch break was over. But as they walked back to their classes, they were quiet, they were each thinking about what the other had said. Dax was thinking about how Cassi wanted answers to be normal and fit in, And Cassi was thinking how Dax was doing this for his family. Their motivations were different, but maybe down the road the could learn something from each others intentions.
They then realized they their next class together, Sociology. They were both just so anti-social they didn't bother learning the names and faces of every single person in the class. As soon as the teacher let them off to work on assignments, Dax and Cassi walked up to each other and found a quiet place in the room to work. Neither of them realized until now how nice it is to work in the company of another person, a friend. And with each other's help, they were able to finish their assignments early.
And with the time they had left in the class, they agreed to talk about how they would go about the research they were planning to do.
But in they end they agreed that Cassi would read the rest of Dark Genetic Phenomena, just to see if it held anymore valuable information, and Dax would read the only biography on Ethan Nastor they could find.
It was nearing the end of class and they were beginning to put their stuff away into their bags and had everything packed up when they both noticed an extra pencil on the large desk they were sharing. They quickly reached for it at the same time as it about time to leave when they barely touched the pencil at the same time they and suddenly felt an electric shock! their fingers hadn't even touched and a weird glitchy shock was shared between their finger tips. "well," said Dax with a chuckle and a smirk playing on his lips, "I guess our glitchy halves are more desperate for each other than I thought." he said a bit quietly so no one but Cassi could hear. Aww, Cassi thought, baby Cas might be having her very first crush. Cassi and Dax just sat there giggling like idiots until the next bell for next class.
