Legend says their hearts died in their chest cavities long ago, that they putrefied and made a heavy slime about their lungs as thick as underworld tar. That's how they became killers and perhaps why.

"𝐎h. I see your interrogation went well."
"Turns out these witches are delicate creatures," Klaus replied to Hayley, trying to wash the blood from his hands as Nathalie leaned against the sliding door, covered head to toe in blood and grinning wickedly. "No matter. As suspected, my mother had Elijah captive."
"I still can't fathom why you were wondering whether it was indeed Esther." The heretic crossed her arms over her chest, her gaze flickering between Klaus and Hayley. "It was an obvious conclusion. 'Lijah doesn't just vanish into the blue."
Nathalie didn't talk about it, but the questions why Kai was the only one left when the Original witch kidnapped Elijah and Oliver were haunting her constantly, awoken and asleep. She knew it hadn't been a good idea to thrust Kai into hers and the Mikaelsons' messes.
Klaus pecked her blood-splashed nose as Hayley spoke up, her eyes darting between the two while Nathalie made her way further into Klaus' bedroom, "Great. Let's go find them."
"Esther is too powerful. She won't be easily found." Klaus began to wipe his hands clean as he took a few steps towards the sliding doors and the mother of his child. "I need to draw her out."
The heretic turned on her heel as she quit examining the paintings the hybrid had hung up as she appeared behind the sliding doors, her hands quickly going to shut them when the female hybrid spoke up.
"Wait, where are you going?" Hayley's words were directed towards the Mikaelson as he stepped beside the brown-skinned woman.
Nathalie opened her mouth to answer, a teasing grin spreading across her face but Klaus hushed her, gently pulling her frame behind his own. He felt her arms coming around his torso. "We're going to change our clothes, and then I'm going to find my brother."
"Klaus, let me come with you," Hayley spoke again, annoyance and determination evident on her features. Nathalie perked her head on the Original hybrid's shoulder, watching the two.
"I know you want to help, Hayley, but you can't," Klaus replied, feeling the heretic bury her head in the crook of his neck, planting soft kisses onto the skin. "My mother is wretched. She will target you, along with Miss Bennett here, in order to thwart me, and I can't very well save Elijah if I'm busy saving either of you, can I?"
With that, Klaus slid the door shut and allowed Nathalie to pull him further into the bedroom.

Nathalie's head met the wall with a soft thud as Klaus lowered his mouth to her neck. His lips roved across her throat and made her toes curl as she tugged him a bit harder against her, tilting her head. "You know, I can actually come with you. I can protect myself just fine."
