The Girl was the main protector for Konno's heart. It filtered out the hateful comments from people like Hahn and Sokka. Yet it didn't deter the hateful comments from Konno herself. After her and her friends took out the Fire Nation soldiers at the small town on the river, she expected Sokka to speak to her again. He didn't. And since he didn't speak to her and she obviously didn't speak to him, her hateful thoughts had become a torrent on her heart.

Konno hadn't been able to sleep, either. She had gotten used to Sokka holding her through the night. Now she was sleeping near Katara because Sokka wouldn't even look at her let alone hold her. She wished she could just talk to him, but she was terrified of what he would say. He'd probably want to break up with her because she lied directly to his face.

She resigned herself to the fact that he would break up with her. All of the good things in her life died before she could truly enjoy them. Yue died before she could even live her life to the fullest with Konno. Navrek died before he could even see the world like he wanted to. And now her relationship with Sokka had died before she could even tell him that she loved him.

And it wasn't like she was ever going to tell him that, either. She wasn't even sure that she loved him yet. The thought of admitting that she loved someone terrified her. Everyone she ever loved died, and she wasn't ready to put herself out there again to get hurt.

"Wow, this is amazing to watch," Katara said, breaking through Konno's thoughts.

Konno glanced up at the sky and saw a meteor shower flying across the dark night. All the meteors twinkled against the night sky, and Konno wished upon one. She wished that everything would be better for their group. She wished that her life would just . . . slow down for a bit. If it would slow down, maybe she could talk to Sokka and figure things out.

"Kind of makes you realize how insignificant we are," Sokka said with a shrug. It hurt to hear his voice.

"Eh, you've seen nothing once, you've seen it one thousand times," Toph said.

There was a sparkle in the sky as a large meteorite entered the atmosphere and fell toward the earth near them. "Oh, man," Sokka said, his eyes wide. "You've never not seen anything like this."

Sokka, Aang, Momo, and Katara all sat up suddenly, joining Konno. Konno had been sitting the whole time because there wasn't really any room for her to lay down with the rest of them. She definitely didn't want to lay down because she would've been next to Sokka, so she had just decided to stay sitting near their feet.

The meteorite was engulfed in blue fire as it streaked across the dark sky. The glow of the blue fire created shadows that danced across each of their faces. It crashed in a huge, blue explosion off in the distance. Konno had to shield her eyes because of how bright the explosion was. She wished that it would have hit her instead so her heart wouldn't have to hurt anymore.

Everyone piled on Appa, and he flew over a small town nestled in the mountains and down toward a large, fire filled crater where the meteorite landed. "The fire is going to destroy that town," Katara said worriedly.

"Not if we can stop it," Aang said with a determined look.

Appa landed close to the fire, allowing Aang, Toph, Sokka, and Konno to jump off of him. Katara slid onto Appa's neck and took the reigns. "There's a creek over here," Katara said, pointing to the right. "I'll bend the water onto the fire."

"Toph, let's make a trench to keep the fire from coming any closer," Aang said while Katara flew off.

"What should we do?" Sokka asked, jerking a thumb over to Konno. He sounded a little dejected.
