"While the feat accomplished by these five young individuals is impressive, we must ask ourselves if we should really be praising them. How did they gain this Intel? Why didn't they contact authorities sooner? Do we really need vigilantes in our city? These are all questions we need to ask. None of them had the authority to act upon the knowledge they gained. When people act upon whims, chaos ensues. Order is how we will have a functioning society. This group, threatens that. By enacting on their impulses, they have put a rift in society's faith in law enforcement. People might begin to act themselves when it is authorities job to do so." Charles was reading the front page of an article out loud. Their success was covered by all sorts of media outlets, most of them were very critical of the legality in what they were doing.
"This is ridiculous. We save their arses, and then they whine about it?" Hajime was laying on the floor of Angel's apartment, tossing a ball into the air. Everyone was there but Kyle and Angel, Kyle had blamed himself for what happened so he was just taking some time to deal with that. Angel just wasn't there, god knows where she is.
"It makes sense that they're upset. We did do some illegal things, such as with hold information from authority, trespass on a crime scene, take classified information from police database.. We did make a citizen's arrest though." Charles said while putting more books on Angel's shelves, they were almost completely filled now. Hajime had absolutely no idea where Angel kept getting crap from. She now had some computer screens in the corner of the room.
"Actually, we didn't go through the process of a citizen's arrest so we did that illegally as well." Diego corrected Charles.
"We performed a public service! They should love us." Hajime scowled as the ball landed on his face. Angel walked through the door, she had sunglasses on and she was covering her ears. It looked like she had a long night.
"What happened to you? You look like you got hit by a bus." Diego chuckled and inspected Angel. Angel winced. "Too loud. Shut up." She walked past them into the kitchen to take some Ibuprofen.
"How does she have time to steal a bunch of shit, and get wasted?" Hajime rolled his eyes. "Does she even have a job?"
Charles sat down on the couch. "She's gotta have a job to pay for the apartment."
"No I don't, the lady who owns this place owed me, technically I can do whatever I want in the whole wing. But that's too much cleaning." Angel walked back into the room, grumbling as she shoved Charles legs out of the way and sat on the couch.
"What does she owe you for?" Diego asked.
"I got her dad locked up." Angel yawned and threw a couch pillow at Charles. Diego's eyebrows scrunched up in confusion for a few moments, then he rolled his eyes.
"Literature interpretation is one of the most diverse forms of thinking. The amount of different perceptions one can perceive about a line of text is infinite. Quotes are exceedingly controversial. I want to explore specific quotes today." Kyle was waving his hands around as he spoke. He was currently lecturing his class, he hadn't given up on his real life just yet. Besides, it was something simple that he enjoyed, educating young people. "I want someone to tell me a quote they think is about enlightenment." Kyle looked around, one student raised their hand and Kyle pointed to him.
"All experiences are preceded by mind, having mind as their master, created by mind, Buddha." The student spoke. Kyle would listen before preceding, speaking carefully.
"Buddha was known for achieving enlightenment in Buddhism but I don't want anyone here to mistake one of his quotes for a quote about enlightenment just because that is what he is known for that. Can you interpret the quote?" Kyle raised his eyebrows, the student shook his head no.
"Harper Lee wrote, You never really understand a person until you consider things from his point of view... until you climb into his skin and walk around in it. Enlightenment can be interpreted as understanding another person and acknowledging every point of view." A lady with sunglasses said from the door frame of the classroom. Everyone looked over to see who it was.
"Hey you're that chick who helped save the power plant!" One of the students called out and pointed at her.
"Sup." Angel walked into the room and stood next to Kyle. Kyle narrowed his eyes and continued.
"Her quote is an example of how one could interpret an enlightenment quote. I want you all to write what you think true enlightenment is, find quotes and excerpts that you feel embody enlightenment. Class dismissed." Kyle shoved his hands in his pockets. The students packed up their things and left, most of them shooting curious glances at Angel.
"You're lucky the media didn't get a good picture of you, I'm recognized basically every where I go. Well, I don't mind it that much." Angel shrugged and turned to face Kyle.
"What're you doing here Angel?" Kyle began packing up his things into his book bag.
"Just came to check on you. See how you're doing.." Angel trailed off. Kyle scowled at her. "Look, I came to apologize. I didn't take into account that you would.. freeze up." Angel took the apple of Kyle's desk and bit into it. Asshole. Kyle bit the inside of his cheek, his anger was evident. "So what was it then? Parent? No.. Sibling?" Angel adjusted the sunglasses on her face.
"What're you talking about this time?" Kyle neatly put all his papers in a folder despite being angry.
"You lost someone, you blame yourself for it, oldest story in the book. When someone takes a stranger's death this personally, usually it's because they see the person who died as a sort of surrogate for who actually died. Best friend?" Angel pressed harder.
"Nobody died, Angel." Kyle slung his bag over his shoulder.
"Well, something happened to someone close to you. You felt like you could've saved them-"
"Stop. Angel. I just need some time." He walked towards the door.
"Boyfriend then?" Angel called out and Kyle shot her a glare before leaving. Angel rolled her eyes and tossed the apple in the trash. Her phone started ringing. "What Diego?" Angel paused. "Brilliant." She said after a few moments of Diego explaining. She hung up and headed for the door.
Angel walked through the doors of the local PD. Diego, Charles, and Hajime were talking to some old Italian guy.
"I just need you all to make a statement to the press." The guy shrugged.
"With all due respect Mr. Mayor, what evidence do you have that we've done something illegal, and what would you be charging us with?" Diego said rather sarcastically.
"Yeah! Right now all you feds got is just a bunch of conspiracy theories." Hajime huffed at the Mayor. Angel walked over to them and the Mayor looked relieved.
"Angel! It's good to see you again, please tell your friends that a simple press conference could clear most of this mess up. And I'm not trying to charge your group with anything. I just want this whole thing to settle down." The Mayor looked flustered.
"I'm sorry, but why would we have to make a statement, you arrested us just to say that you aren't charging us with anything? Last I checked, you had to have probable cause to just arrest someone." Diego dipped his head, feigning respect.
"Slow your roll their tiger." Angel held her hands up. "It's just a press conference, I'll do it myself if it bothers you guys that much." And she did.
Later that day she stood in front of Local PD with about a hundred different reporters shouting questions at her.
"I just would like to settle things so we can all go back to our normal lives. However, the family of the man who died may not have the same luxury. I want to say that I am deeply and incredibly sorry for their loss. My friends and I saved those people at the power plant because it was the right thing to do. I think we're all asking the wrong questions here. In the process of saving those lives, we uncovered a hidden organization of crime, that's who we're really up against here. No further questions." Angel stepped down from the stand.
Angel was sitting on the balcony of her apartment. She heard footsteps approaching her.
"Did you really mean all that? What you said to the press? I mean..You think we did the right thing?" Kyle said from behind Angel.
"Technically there is no right and wrong in the world, just peoples different perspectives on what is morally acceptable." She turned around to see Kyle's confused and disappointed face. She let out a light laugh.
"Yes Kyle, I think we did the right thing. I don't believe in optimism, it is a very flawed perception of things. But I do believe that acceptance is an important mind set. Accept what you can't change, and fight like hell for things you can." Angel went to pat him on the shoulder but stopped.
"Angel. Why did you bring us all together, truthfully?" Kyle asked.
"If you're looking for a fortune cookie answer, you aren't getting one. Truthfully, I felt like it. Make of that what you will." Angel walked inside.

A/N:
They actually did do illegal things, but officials haven't found any evidence for them to be properly prosecuted. Also this chapter is kind of out there, don't really like it but it's necessary to show that there are critics to what the group is doing, but there isn't anything that can get them arrested unless evidence is provided.
