"Who is she?" said a voice. "Who is she? What is she?" said another. "Hush! She's waking up!" said a third.
Verbena groaned and rolled over; her scratches from the IceWing assassin were hurting again.
"Moons! What happened to her back?!" The first voice said. "I dunno, it looks like she got scratched!" The second voice said. "What do you think happened?" The third voice.
Verbena sat up, she was laying on what appeared to be some kind of medicine bed. "Who are you all and what are your names?"
The first dragon was a RainWing with sky blue and white scales, the second was a taller RainWing who had emerald green scales dappled with light flares of orange around her ears and along her wings. The third dragon was a small female NightWing with gleaming violet eyes. "I'm Blissful, this is Bullfrog, and her majesty Queen Glory." The young NightWing nodded at them each in turn. "What's yours?"
"My name is Verbena, nice to meet you all," Verbena climbed off the bed and dipped her head in respect to Queen Glory. "Have you seen my friend, weird-looking like me, asymmetrical horns, black and blue scales?"
Glory nodded. "He's getting a tour. Now, what are you doing in my kingdom, Verbena?" Glory flared her ruff and readjusted the metal tiara that was carved to look like a flower crown that was fastened around her horns. "I traveled here from the Scorpion Den, I'm looking for someone."
"Before you go anywhere, rub some of this of your back," Bullfrog trotted over to a short-stemmed, spiny plant growing in a clay pot, snapped off one of its leaves, making sure to hold it where the tear started, so the clear goo didn't leak out.
"Here," he said, passing her the strange-looking plant leaf. "It's aloe, it should help them heal." As Verbena was rubbing the aloe along her spine, he added, "I would reapply horsetail and honey to those belly scratches as well; those could be fatal."
"I'm looking for a RainWing named Teak, do any of you know him?" Bullfrog ran back over to where he got the aloe from and threw the 'horsetail' to Verbena. Bullfrog also threw her a honey-soaked piece of moss. Verbena rubbed the moss along her back and belly. She'd seen the SandWing doctors chew the horsetail up and rub it on wounds, so she did that and asked for a bandage.
Glory nodded. "The one who vanished seven years ago and came back two years after he left? Yes, he's one of my advisors." Glory went on. Bullfrog bandaged her wounds with gauze and she thanked him. "Follow us. We can walk there; it's not too far away." The dragons walked onto the balcony that had pretty red berries growing on the roof.
"This is the medicine hut, you probably already know that," Bullfrog assumed.
"Teak? Teak? Are you there?" A slow voice answered them, "Yes, I'm here, what do you need your highness?" A slender yellow and lime green RainWing walked out of a leaf hut, "And who's this?" He asked, pointing one of his claws at Verbena.
"We'll leave you guys to this," Glory said, flicking her prehensile tail at Blissful and Bullfrog to follow, and flew off.
"What do you need?" Verbena could see he was uncomfortable, talking to a weird-looking dragon he didn't know.
"Do you know a SandWing named Jasper by any chance?" Teak's head snapped up.
"How do you know Jasper?" "She's my mother."
Teak gasped, "So she did have a dragonet," he whispered.
"Where have you been all this time?" Verbena dug her claws into the wood below her talons, making scratch marks in the planks that would probably be quite noticeable in perfect daylight. Teak winced as if the wood was his face being clawed. "Come inside, I'll explain everything in the morning."
