Chapter 4: Trick and Treats
The next day, Rubble, Skye, Zuma, and Rocky were trying to decide on another way to prove Marshall was a ghost.
"Well our tent stakeout didn't go as planned, so what's the next step?" Skye asked her friends.
"We try to watch Marshall while we're inside The Lookout. Hopefully we'll get better luck this time," Rubble suggested.
"Yeah, and if that fails, I got a backup plan!" Rocky added confidently.
"Good. Wait, how will we be able to watch Mawshall inside The Lookout?" Zuma asked curiously.
"Chase and Snowflake are going to Katie's place to get a pup spa treatment. Plus, tonight is going to be windy so Ryder will want us indoors," Rock answered. Zuma, Skye, and Rubble smiled, hoping their next plan would work.
Later that night, Snowflake and Chase drove to Katie's pet store when the sun started going down. Plenty of time for their spa. Meanwhile, Rubble, Rocky, Zuma, Skye, and Marshall all relaxed in front of the TV, watching a calming movie. Ryder had already put popcorn in the microwave for the pups. As the pups watched the movie, they were all enjoying the calm mood.
DING! came the sound of the microwave, letting everyone know the popcorn was ready.
"I'll get the popcorn," Marshall offered before he got up, and walked towards the kitchen. After grabbing a bowl, and pressing the 'open' button, Marshall carefully grabbed the bag of popcorn in his mouth, and set it in the bowl.
"Ow! Ow! Hot, hot, hot!" Marshall said as his tried to carry the bowl of popcorn in his mouth. Surprised by the hot bowl, Marshall stumbled back before tripping over his paws, and accidentally threw the bowl into the air! The bowl flew through the air before landing on the floor. The bag of popcorn however, flew and hit a cabinet door above Marshall, easing the door, before the door opened by itself. The impact also caused a tear in the bag of popcorn, causing the delicious yellow food and bag to spill all over the floor.
"Awww man!" Marshall commented until he was suddenly blinded by a flour bag that fell on his head from above. "Huh? Hey! Who turned out the lights?" The dally stumped about as he tried to get the bag off but only managed to wonder around before tripping again.
"Wahoo!" Marshall exclaimed as he tripped. The bag of flour flew upwards, until it got caught on the corner of the cabinet door, and ripped! White flour poured out of the bag, and onto Marshall as it covered him and the kitchen flour in snow white powder.
"Looks like I'll have to clean this up," Marshall said as he shook himself, then gathered the popcorn bag and poured the food into the bowl.
"What's taking Marshall so long? I'm going to check and see if he's okay," Rubble said before getting up and going to the kitchen. Suddenly, the lights flickered a few times before the power went out.
"M-M-Marshall? Are you okay?" Rubble asked nervously, before he carefully made his way to the kitchen. Thank goodness light was coming from outside, so Rubble could still see where he was going. Upon getting to the kitchen however, the pup saw something that spooked him; Marshall came walking towards him, with a bowl of popcorn in his mouth, the dalmatian pup white as a bed sheet.
"G-G-G-Ghost! Marshall's a ghost!" Rubble exclaimed in fright before running away. Marshall tilted his head, confused before following his friend.
"Aaaaaahhhh! Help!" Rubble cried out before meeting the rest of the pups back in the living room.
"Rubble? What's wrong?" Rocky asked, holding a lit up flashlight in his mouth.
"Marshall's a ghost! I just saw him!" Rubble explained as he tried to calm down. Suddenly, they all heard footsteps coming towards them. Rocky shined the flashlight in the direction of the sound, only to reveal the ghostly white Marshall approaching them with a bowl of popcorn in his mouth.
"Aaaaaaahhhhhhh! Ghost!" Rubble, Rocky, Skye, and Zuma all screamed before running away from the 'ghost'.
"Wait, pups! Come back! I brought - Wahoooo!" Marshall commented before he tripped over a plush dog bed. The white popcorn went flying out of the bowl and right towards the pups! Most of the popcorn fell around them, but the bowl landed on Rubble's head!
"Aaaaaahhhh! Help! It's got me! The ghost got me! Help! It's .... Yummy?" Rubble screamed until he tasted some popcorn that fell into his face from the bowl. Shaking the bowl off, the pups stopped running, sniffing the popcorn before eating it. It tasted a bit powdered and sweet like bread.
"Wait, this popcorn is covered in flour! But if the popcorn is covered in flour, and Marshall went to get the popcorn..." Skye said before putting the pieces together in her mind.
"Pups? Are you okay? I heard screaming!" a familiar voice said behind them. Shining the flashlight around, Rocky pointed the light at the snow white Marshall.
"We'we fine Mawshall. We just got scawed by you. But, why awe you and the popcown... Covewed in fouw?" Zuma asked curiously. The other pups nodded with confusion.
"Oh, sorry. I went to get the popcorn, but the bowl got hot. I was surprised, but then a bag of flour fell on me, I got spooked and tried to get it off. It worked but then I got covered in four, along with the popcorn and the kitchen flour... Oops," Marshall confessed, realizing he still had a mess to clean up. The pups giggled, when the lights came back on.
"The lights are on again! They must have gotten knocked out because of the wind, then just came back on!" Rocky guessed.
"Good. Sorry about the mess pups, I'll clean it up!" Marshall told his friends before going to get a broom and dustpan. The four pups breathed a sigh of relief.
"No ghost Marshall. Just flour. Awww man! We were so close to proving he was a ghost!" Rubble said with slight disappointment. Focusing on the popcorn on the floor, the bulldog started to eat it. "At least he brought us treats!"
"Rubble!" Skye, Zuma, and Rocky said jokingly before they giggled at the silliness of the situation.
