Chapter 5: Ghostly Green

Chase and Snowflake returned later that night from their spa session at Katie's pet parlor. Overall, despite the failed attempt to prove Marshall was a ghost, the rest of the night was uneventful for the pups.

"Too bad we can't stick Marshall in something when he's a ghost again," Rubble suggested to Rocky as the two helped Ryder clean up the kitchen the next day.

"Stick? Like something sticky or tape him? If we catch him, it has to be something that will make it tricky for him to escape, but not sticky enough to ruin a table or something else... Or hurt Marshall if he eats it!" Rocky pointed out.

"You're right," Rubble agreed. Ryder giggled as he put boxes of old food in a bag to give to those who could use it.

"Well, I don't think you'll catch Marshall as a ghost, but there is some sticky stuff you pups could eat. That would help," Ryder said as he put some boxes down for the pups to look at. There was marshmallows, lime green Jell-O, pancakes with maple syrup, and a bunch of bubble gum.

"We can have these! Yum!" Rubble replied before licking his lips with his tongue.

"Hmmm. Actually, we might be able to use these for our next ghost Marshall catch! In fact, I got an idea. But we'll need some other supplies. Come on Rubble!" Rocky said thoughtfully before grabbing a couple of boxes in his mouth, and putting them on his back. Rubble did the same before they walked away outside

"We can use these boxes of food for our traps! But we need lots of bowls, water, and other stuff!" Rocky said to Rubble just as Zuma and Skye came over.

"How will food help us catch Mawshall the ghost, dude?" Zuma asked, tilting his head in confusion.

"Easy, Marshall will get distracted by the food and we use the rest of the food to trap him so he can't get away. Then we ask him about if he's a ghost!" Rocky answered. The mixed breed then dug through his recycling truck before flinging but some large bowls.

"Good, except we still need water!" Skye commented, until she smiled.

"Marshall! We need your help!" Skye called out. Within minutes, the dally pup came running out to the other pups.

"Hi pups! What do you need help with?" Marshall greeted as he approached his friends.

"Ryder wants us to try and use up some of this old food, but we need water. Can you help us?" Rubble explained.

"Yes, I can help!" Marshall responded happily. The pups all looked at the instructions for each box, then after gathering extra supplies like measuring cups, spoons, pans, whisks, plus a microwave and an oven Rocky made out of recycled parts, the pups all got to work making the food. The gum they ignored, but the pancakes, marshmallows, and lime Jell-O they could make. After a few hours of cook, baking, and boiling water, they were done.

"Yes! Finally! We're done! Now we can eat!" Marshall said happily.

"Actually, no. The pancakes and marshmallows are still warm. We should wait, and then eat with Ryder," Skye pointed out, as Marshall grabbed a spoon with his mouth. Marshall nodded before putting the spoon down. The four pups then carefully put the food away, cleaned up the cooking they had done, then relaxed.

Hours later, Skye, Zuma, Rocky, and Rubble gathered outside with the bowls of food, and set up their ghost trap. A bowl of pancakes was set up in the yard, then carefully placed near the pancakes were two different traps; each one holding a big separate bowl of melted marshmallows, bubble gum, or lime green Jell-O. There was also a bottle of maple syrup nearby, ready to be used as a sticky backup trap.
