"Happy Birthday", we yelled together. My mom jumped back in shock then started laughing.

"Surprise mom. Happy birthday."

"Wow. I really didn't expect this. I don't know what to say...thank you...all of you.", my mom said. I could see the happiness in her eyes.

"Come on Mrs. Stewart, it's time to cut the cake.", Sam said.

"Happy birthday boss.", Thomas Andrews, a guy from Kim's work, wished her. He was really nice. He helps my mom out a lot. When I was younger, my mom used to drop and pick me up from school, but then my mom had to work late so Tom used to pick me up. He used to bring me candy each time. Once we even went out to eat because my mom forgot to give him the key. So we had burgers and he took me to the park and played with me till my mom called saying that she had reached home. He was a really cool guy.

We bought my mom a huge orange, strawberry and pistachio cake with chocolate topping. It was my mom's favorite. She was turning thirty-nine. Our relatives, my mom's and dad's parents, my friends, mom's friends, her colleagues, neighbors even her boss was at the party. We ordered pizza for everyone. We had the cake, we ate the pizza and then all of us, everyone watched a movie together. It was so much fun. I thought that my mom would find it weird, watching a movie with her boss and his WIFE! But I was wrong. Everyone in her office was pretty close. My mom is even friends with her boss' wife and they do have parties so I guess they are cool with it. After the movie it was present time.

Her boss, Mr. Connelly and his wife handed her an envelope and a small gift-wrapped box.

She opened the envelope and found a folded paper. She open it up and began reading it out loud," The Ramp HQ, New York. Dear Board member, Due to your fine work and cooperation to the magazine, the board has put to vote and decided that the position of Mrs. Carolyn Stewart as Editor is to be promoted to- oh my god." My mom paused staring at the paper. She looked up with a huge smile on her face,"Editor-in-chief". Everyone yelled and congratulated her. She thanked Mr. Connelly and his wife and opened the small box to find a pair of beautiful silver earrings.

"Oh my god, this is so sweet. Thanks boss and Lana. This was really nice of you."

My mom was opened the rest of the presents. The Chafner family got her a beautiful vase. It was purple with carvings on it. She loved it. My grandparents aka her parents got her an old album with all her childhood photos in it. We spent about fifteen minutes listening to her tell us what happened in each picture. I even caught a tear roll down her cheek. There were many wonderful gifts - a photo frame, a new purse, a beautiful wall mirror and many more.

At last it was time to open my gift. I handed her the huge, slightly heavy cardboard box with holes in the sides.

"What is it, honey?", my mom asked, smiling curiously.

"Open it and find out."

First she looked through the holes. When she looked back up she had a shocked expression. I knew she saw what was inside. I just stood there smiling at her.
