Asmodeus watched him, the intent look in her eye would have scaredanyone who knew her just because it looked so strange on her face. Her face that had always been lax was now concentrated as if she hadfound her purpose. Not only that but her golden eyes were now an aquablue. Her Snake Color. She hated it, with a fiery hatred. Hervision, like all nagas, was poor and though she could see him wellenough she couldn't see his face and now even if she could her eyesight would still not allow her. Her entire world was taken over bydifferent shades of blue from as light as cyan and aquamarine to asdark as turquoise and the colors the ocean got when it was angry.
She knew what this meant, she knew that the brief glimpses shesometimes got of aqua blue at the edges of her vision and her parentshave taught her. It fully took over the full vision when she firstsaw her mate.
She could see his physique but couldn't see the color of anything. Not his hair, not his skin, not his eyes or anything else. She openedher mouth allowing the full sense of smell to be engaged. While allnagas had poor eyesight when compared to humans but their sense ofsmell was second to none. She breathed in allowing herself to tastethe scents; the salt of the sea, the metal and wood of the boat, thescent of the trodden grass and forest, the smell of the natives, because there was a small group watching silently, the tang of sweat, and the smell of whatever was carried in those barrels that made hercrinkle her nose in disgust and fruit and animals.
Why couldn't she smell him?!
She felt her heart pounding like it was trying to escape from herchest and her breathing was fast and shallow. Her eyesight started toslowly darken, being even black at the edges. Why couldn't she smellhim?
"Asda?" She didn't even turn to see her oldest brother Oak,instead letting out a slight hiss of warning. He gasped because itwas something that she had never done, it didn't matter that it was anormal thing for nagas it was something she had never, ever done."Asmodeus?" He questioned but she just growled in warning. It wasonly then that he saw her eyes were a bright teal blue instead of thenormal gold color.
"Have you found your mate?" He asked but she didn't answer andinstead made an almost purring sound. He took a deep breath andlooked over confused, "which one is it?" He gasped as suddenlyshe was on him, one hand grabbing his neck the other held back withher fingers curled and the tip of her tail poised ready to strike.
Despite the fact that Oak was the second oldest while she was theyoungest and was seven years younger than him, unmated while he was amated father to two sons and a daughter. Still, he was terrified.
"Calm down little Asda," Oak tried using her childhood nicknameto calm her down but she just answered with a growl. She viewed himas a threat to her mate, "I'm your brother, you know I'd never hurtyour mate." He tried to get through to her, hoping that all of herinstincts coming in wouldn't make her lose herself. "I and the restof the family would only be to protect them." He said and sighed asshe seemed to relax, her eyes fading back to the normal gold.
"Oak?" She sounded scared and for the first time seemed to allowOak to pull her into his arms.
"It's okay Asda, it's okay." Oak promised not knowing what he wasdoing. Comforting Juniper? Easy. Calming Mojo? Done. Helping Basiland Leaf? Weird but doable. But Asmodeus? He never had done so and itfelt stilted and awkward. But she was his little sister.
