She had no idea how long she had run. Her skin damp with sweat and she was panting hard. Every breath is a struggle. She stopped and hid behind and tree and tried to steady her breathing. A twig dig into her sole and made her wince. She crouched and listened to the quiet.

It was not long before she was startled by sounds of footsteps. Heavy footsteps crunched the dry leaves on the forest ground. Her heartbeat picked up again, but she stayed quiet.

The footsteps drew closer.

"Kai! I think she went this way," someone said, making her jump. "There are foot prints."

A smack against the tree she hid at made her gasp quietly.

"Shit! When I get her I'm making sure she will regret running away!" Kai said. With another kick to the tree, he continued, "Let's get her before sun down, it's getting dark."

She listened to their retreating footsteps and waited until she heard nothing. And then she waited a bit longer. Crouching in silence. Listening. Waiting.

After a while, she breathed a sigh.

Kai is right, she thought. It has not been long since Kai and his friend left but it is already dark. The dense and widespread forest of starting to make her feel claustrophobic.

She need to leave. So, she wipe the sweat on her forehead, and run away.

Away from Kai.
