After I shower I stand in front of my mirror and look at myself closely. What is it that my parents don't like? Where did I go wrong?

My phone rings, snapping me out of my thoughts.

"Hello?" I say into the speaker as I put on short white shorts, a black loose tank top that has a low back with coral and white beading along the racer back slim string that holds the shirt together, a coral bandeau, and white sandals.

"Hey Syd." Michael says through the phone. I smile at my reflection and run a brush through my blow dried hair.

"Hey Mikey. What's up buttercup?" He laughs through the phone and I hear some people talking in the background.

"Well I was just wondering if you were coming to our show tonight?" A sad smile appears on my face and my heart drops.

"No, I'm not. I don't think I really have the energy to do it. It's been a draining day." My voice loses its cheerfulness as I talk and I press speaker to do my makeup.

"Well if you can make it, we're playing at the beach tonight. Django pier. By the way, happy birthday." He hangs up and I stare at it for a couple of seconds before I finish my makeup and grab my keys, purse, and phone.

I walk out the door and get in, heading to Django pier.

By the time I get there the place is packed. As I head up to the entrance im stopped by two security guards.

"Sydney Evans?" They ask and I nod. "Come with us." I follow them to an area marked off and immediately spot Hailee.

I break out in a grin and she hugs me tightly.

"What the hell are you doing here?" I ask excitedly.

"Ashton called me and I can't tell you why but you'll find out soon enough. I was just gonna surprise you because I wasn't leaving in the first place but then this came up so like yeah?" She tells me really fast and we start laughing.

"You are the best friend ever. I love you." I hug her again just as I see the guys come out on stage.

We turn to see the guys grinning at the crowd and I catch Luke's eye. But before I smile or anything he moves his gaze along and sends a grin to someone else.

What the actual hell?

"This song goes out to a very special girl in all of our lives." Ashton says into his mic. A picture of me and him standing ontop of a bus appears on the screen and I laugh at our faces.

"She has kept us in line even when we are miles apart from her." Calum continues. The screen switches to a picture of him carrying me on his shoulders.

"She lets us give her advice on the guys she interested in. And normally its a no from us on any guy because no one can match her." Michael says and a picture of him dying my hair with me blindfolded comes onto the screen. By now I'm crying lightly and being glad that I came.

"And finally I have known her for, literally, her whole life. We've had ups and downs and she's shed many tears in front of me. She constantly talks even when we tell her to shut up. She pushes our buttons to laugh at how mad we get. And she cooks if we have had a long day. No matter the hour if one of us calls her she always picks up. It doesn't matter how far away we are, the bond we've all made with her stays there forever. Happy birthday Sydney." Luke finishes and a picture of him and I ice skating a few years ago comes onto the screen, followed by one of all of the guys and I at the airport just before they left.

They start out in a happy birthday song before going into their set.

I excuse myself halfway through and when I step out of the gates I see flashing lights everywhere.

"Is it true that the band planned a surprise party?"

"Are you leaving because of one of their ex's?"

Crazy things are thrown at me as I rush to my car. I was only coming out for a breath of air without being pushed.

I appreciate what the boys did for me but I didn't want this.

I just wanted something small. Something that didn't draw a lot of attention.

But when do I get anything my way?

"Syd!" I look over to the passenger seat as Hailee slides in.

"Hey Hai." I greet and she gives me a knowing smile.

"It was too big wasn't it?" Hailee responds as she puts her feet up onto my dash.

"It was. I just wanted us all to like go to the beach with burgers and milkshakes. That's what Luke and I planned. We did it for his and he said we would do it for mine too." I confess. Luke really did change and I know that it's not for the better.

"I guess Luke forgot about that too." The sentence slips out of my mouth before I can stop it and Hailee gives me a side hug.

"C'mon let's go get those burgers and shakes. Everyone should be gone from the beach now." She grins at me and I feel a smile slowly make its way onto my face.

Hailee does that. Her presence just brings happiness and you just cant not be happy around her.

It looks like everyone made their way out from the concert about two hours ago but we're still sitting under the pier with alcohol and shakes.

"What time is it Syd?" Hailee asks me as we stop the game we're currently playing. We made it up.

It's amazing.

"Uh midnight? You have to go already?" I say sadly and she nods.

After a few drunken goodbyes I sit alone with the bottles next to me.

Well, might as well keep up the party.

I take the tequila bottle and start drinking more from it. The taste burning the back of my throat and my stomach protesting as the liquid flows into it.

Soon the bottle is yanked from my grip and I glare up at the whoever took it.

"What are you doing?" A familiar voice asks.

I giggle and try to take the bottle back.

"I'm having fun and you're ruining it." Is my sharp but light response.

"Sydney, this is too much alcohol for you." I roll my eyes and grab another bottle and take a huge full of it. Vodka.

My favorite.

Before the strange man can take the bottle away I stumble backwards with the bottle and shake my head.

"Get your own mister." A slice of moonlight flashes over his face the bottle drops from my hands to see that Marcus is standing in front of me.

"What's wrong?" He asks as he steps closer to me. Fake concern flashing over his eyes.

I shake my head before trying to run away, but after a little while my head spins and I crash to the ground.

I flip onto my back with a groan and let out a scared whimper when i see his tall figure towering over me.

"Sss-stop!" I yell as he leans down to me. "Ashton!" I scream as I try to get away from Marcus. Maybe one of the guys is still here.

"Sydney! Stop!" He yells and I just shake my head.

"No! No! No!" Tears fall down as he grabs my arms and pulls me up to him. The world spins around me and hazel/green eyes stare back at me as my mind clenches with confusion.

Marcus has dark brown almost black eyes.

"Sydney, what's wrong?" All of a sudden everything became clear and Ashton is standing in front of me.

"Did you get him away?" My voice shakes with fear as Ash's eyebrows scrunch together in confusion.

"It's been me the whole time." He assures me and sits down in the sand. "Who's Marcus?" He questions and when my breathing grows shallow he holds me tighter against his chest.

"He's my ex." I tell him after my breathing goes back to normal. "And he wants me dead."
