Because Ezra neither R.J. would do anything about the situation, Scarlet and Butch had no choice, but to head back to the station. They could now add some more information. She placed a photo of Jerry up after gathered information of who he was. Scarlet then wrote under the photo: Zombie, victim.
"You said you saw bite marks on his head?" he asks his partner.
"Yes," confirms Scarlet. "He must have been bitten by a zombie while attacked. Unfortunately, he's a zombie himself..."
"...which begs the question, where did these zombies come from?" Butch queries.
"That I definitely like to know," agreeing she confides. "I am suspicious that the lab is where this all began."
"How though?" he asks half-confused with her suspicion. "It's not like they store dead bodies in their lab like the morgue here at the station."
A thought came to Scarlet's head. "Or do they?" responding she queries. "I mean, they are a lab that studies scientific research. What if a chemical in their lab somewhere activated the dead bodies in their morgue turning them into zombies?"
"That's a good thought," Butch admits, "however, how are we going to investigate the lab? Everything was touched so therefore tampered with."
"Only Tony's lab was touched," corrects Scarlet. "The rest of the lab could still have evidence that is unknown to them."
"Even if they have a morgue and it was untouched," he begun asking, "how are we going to get into it? I seriously doubt Ezra is going to welcome us back into the facility."
She smiles with a mischief gleam in her eyes.
"What are you thinking, Scarlet?" a little unease Butch queries.
"That scientist whom we first met," Scarlet explains. "He could get us inside when everybody is gone...including Ezra?"
"He didn't even tell us his name," confused he replies. "How would we be able to contact him?"
"Follow me and watch."
She led Butch out of their office and into the station. They came to the cybercrime unit which an officer saw him and Scarlet.
"Can you do Butch and I a favor?" she asks. "It's for our case we are working on."
"Sure," willingly he says. "How can I help?"
"I was wondering if you can pull up all the employees to the laboratory facility?"
"Yes, ma'am," the officer responds politely.
He typed away on his computer then pulled up a list of the workers and staff. As the officer scrold through the list, Scarlet stared at the screen. She was looking to recognize the one scientist who spoke to them. Suddenly, Scarlet spotted him.
"Wait! That's him!" quickly she announces. "Tarence McLightning," Scarlet reads off. She then pulls out her cell phone and dials his number. "Thank you so much."
"No problem, Scarlet," the officer says with a smile.
Scarlet hurried back into their office which Butch grins a smile at her. "Sneaky wolf, you!"
She had pressed the send button which she waited for an answer.
"Hello?" greets a voice.
"Hi, this is Scarlet Freeman. You talked to me and my partner yesterday about the incident that happened?"
"Oh, yes," Terance's voice spoke with recognition. "I remember you two. Wait...how did you get my number?"
"I got it from the police station," confides Scarlet. "However, I was wondering if you could possibly let us into the lab after everyone left? It has something to do with the case we are working on."
"Sure," he sounded a little skeptical. "Can you wait until twelve o'clock?"
"Twelve o'clock will be perfect," while looking at her partner she assures smiling. "Thank you."
"No problem. See you then."
Scarlet hangs up her phone while still smiling at him. "If Ezra and R.J. want proof...then we will get them proof."
They hanged out at the station in their office. As everyone began to go home for the night, they waited in the van until twelve o'clock approached. Once it had, Butch drove the van to the lab.
Waiting for them outside was Terance. He looked nervous but she was glad to see he did not back down from his promise. The van was parked alongside the curb. It was night so they did not have to bother with others coming-and-going. Butch and Scarlet step out of the van.
"Thank you so much for doing this," she says appericated.
"Anything to figure out what truly happened to Tony," confides Terance. "Ever since the two of you told me about what actually happened, I've not been able to stop thinking about it."
"My condolences," Scarlet replies sinser. "I'm sure Tony put up a fight before he died." She was sparing him of finding out the details.
"Yes, I'm sure he did," agrees Terance a bit solemn. "Where are you wanting to look?"
"We would like to check out your morgue," Scarlet explains, "that is if you have one?"
She had hoped they didn't come all this way for nothing.
"We have a morgue of some sorts," answers Terance. "It is not your typical police morgue though."
As they followed him to the front doors, Scarlet halted. She was getting a whift of a familiar scent...half-dead half-alive smell! A hand pulled back some leaves to the foliage that decorated the outside of the facility. Scarlet glances to her right.
Right before being seen, the hand quickly let go of the leaf. There was a scuffing sound then running feet. She stares at where the leaf was slightly moving. Scarlet wondered if that same zombie from last night had tracked her down?
Why though if it was the same zombie? What intrigued it about her if it was fascinated? Was it the fact that she was a werewolf and the zombie could smell that?
"Scarlet?" Butch's voice calls to her, snapping his partner from her thinking. "Come on! Let's get this over with and call it a night!"
"Coming!" calling to them Scarlet assures.
She could not help but had a feeling something was around. Her wolf senses was telling her to stay on high alert. Scarlet caught up to them before their was a gurgling sound.
