Falling City

𝙲𝚑𝚊𝚙𝚝𝚎𝚛 22

"𝙷𝚘𝚠 𝚌𝚘𝚞𝚕𝚍 𝙸 𝚎𝚟𝚎𝚛 𝚜𝚝𝚊𝚢 𝚊𝚠𝚊𝚢 𝚏𝚛𝚘𝚖 𝚢𝚘𝚞?"

"Clint, what's happening?" Athena asked through the intercom.

"It's the kid" Clint responded. He let out a shaky breath "He's down" 

Athena turned to look at Wanda when they met eyes she could see they were watering "Wanda I am so sorry" Wanda turned away from Athena and let her tears flow. When she started to cry her knees started to buckle and a red mist surrounded all the robots taking them out. Athena walked close to the girl and kneeled down holding her shoulders "Wanda"

Wanda raised her hand and held Athena's arm "My brother" She sobbed "He's gone" 

Athena nodded rubbing her arm to give comfort "I know and I'm so sorry but we have to go" As Athena was comforting Wanda Ultron crashed down through the side of a bus

"No" Wanda started to stand up and looked over in the direction of the fallen robot "We are going to get revenge" She ran off in the direction with Athena following behind her. The girl promised Pietro that she would protect Wanda and she was determined to keep her promise.

When they got to Ultron he muttered out the girl's names "Wanda, Athena. If you stay here, you'll die" 

"I just did" Wanda responded "Do you know how it felt?" She used her powers and ripped out his core causing Ultron to shut down. "It felt like that"

From the boats Steve watched the city fall. He scanned the boats but couldn't see the familiar face of Athena causing him to panic. He raised his finger to his ear and started to talk  "Athena you'd better be on one of these boats" 

Back in the bus on the falling city Athena spoke back to Steve "Almost done promise" Athena then looked over at Wanda "We've got to go Wanda" The girl just shook her head "You can't stay here. I won't let you" 

She shook her head "I must" 

Vision came into the bus  and picked Wanda up "I've got her go" 

Athena nodded and ran through her portal before the city was completely destroyed. She landed on a random boat and looked around to see if she could see a familiar face "Athena!" She turned to see Steve. Athena couldn't keep the smile off her face as she ran towards the man and jumped into his arms Steve hugged her close as her perfume filled his senses "Oh thank god you're okay"

Athena held Steve's face and looked into his blue eyes "You know me I always am"

When they got back Steve grabbed hold of Athena's arm and pulled the girl away from the group "Woah Steve calm down" He didn't listen he just carried on dragging her away "Steve where are you taking me?"

"We need to talk away from everyone," Steve told her "And you're going to tell me the truth" When he was satisfied with how far away they were he turned to look at her "Please darling tell me the truth"

"What is it you want to know?" Athena asked.

"Your file what's so important that it couldn't get out?" He asked.

Athena knew it wasn't long before he would start to question the file so she reached into her pocket and pulled out the USB her dad gave her "This file explains who I am. It explains why I'm a danger. It explains why everyone should say away from me" She paused for a second "It explains why you should stay away from me" 

"How could I ever stay away from you?" Steve asked as he rubbed her arm.

She shook her head as she held the USB up for Steve "All I'm asking is that you don't look at me any differently when you find out who I am"

He took the USB out of Athena's hands he looked at it for a moment before crushing it in his "I don't need a file telling me what I should and shouldn't do" He wrapped his arm around her waist and pulled her closer "And you should listen to the file either. I love you too much to see you push me away because of a file" 

Athena smiled as she wrapped her arms around his neck "And I love you, Steven Rodgers"
