It was all a mistake, a horrifying, terrible, disastrous, stupid mistake. Albus was known for having bad luck, but he never thought the stars would align in such a way that his life could be completely ruined in one second. He lay on his bed, relaying the events over and over in his head, wondering what he could do so that Scorpius could forgive him.

----

He had found Hannah in the common room crying, sitting on the leather couch with her head in her hands. He hadn't purposefully gone out to find her, he wanted to be alone but he knew he would have to talk to her eventually so he decided to quietly approached her.

"Hannah?"

She snapped her head up. "Oh, it's you."

"Are you ok?" Nobody else was in the common room and he spotted the daily prophet thrown across the floor.

"No, Albus how could I be?" She sobbed and put her head in her hands again and Albus handed her a tissue.

"It's shitty isn't it." Albus patted her back and he felt as if he'd time traveled 8 months ago, back to when Albus used to comfort her all the time.

"I just, we looked so...happy, me and you in those photos kissing. We could be that again Albus," she looked up at him, smiling through her tears.

"Hannah no, fuck please don't do this to me, I don't want you to hurt."

"You love me, I know you do."

"I-", he didn't finish his sentence for Hannah grabbed his face and kissed him fiercely, with such force it took him a few seconds to break away, before he noticed Scorpius standing in the doorway with tears in his eyes.

He couldn't believe what had just happened. What must have that looked like to Scorpius, who probably thought he still loved her? It had all happened so fast, he didn't know what to do.

"Fuck Hannah, what the fuck have you done!" He was crying, tears all over his face but his mind was going 100 miles a minute, 'where was Scorpius? Should I find him? How can I fix this!'

Albus ran from the room, leaving Hannah in utter confusion. He raced down the corridor, trying to think where Scorpius could be- he loved the library, but the library would have too many people, and he can't have gone far...the bathrooms? The bathrooms!

They were locked. Scorpius must have charmed them shut. "Alohomora! Dammit!" They stayed locked, sometimes Albus forgot how good Scorpius was at magic. "Scorpius please!" he cried, but he doubted he could hear him. The walls were thick and mostly noise cancelling. He pounded the doors until his fists hurt, finally giving up and sliding to the ground.

The tears wouldn't stop coming, Albus cried when he was sad but never as much as this moment.

It was a long long time before Albus realized that waiting was useless, and that Scorpius probably wanted time alone just as Albus would've appreciated if he had been in the same situation. So he went back to his dormitory and lay on his bed, kicking himself for talking to Hannah in the first place, for being so nice to her. But he knew that Hannah was important to him, he cared for her safety and her happiness and she was still his friend. He knew he shouldn't blame himself, but he couldn't stop.

If the whole situation wasn't complicated enough already, what made it worse is that they were supposed to be boarding the Hogwarts Express at lunchtime and Scorpius was supposed to be coming to the burrow for Christmas.

----

Scorpius did not know what to do with himself. He had never been through anything like this before, never been so in love only to have his heart shattered in seconds. So he sat and cried as most people do. Sat on the bathroom floor, not caring that it was cold and wet, not caring that the Hogwarts Express was going to leave in a couple of hours, he knew he wouldn't be boarding it anyway. He heard the banging on the door but he didn't care to answer it, of course it would be Albus running back to him, begging him for forgiveness but he couldn't do it, he couldn't.

----

Albus went to Rose and told her everything, about him and Scorpius and about the kiss with Hannah. He knew they had agreed not to tell Rose, mainly because she was terrible at keeping secrets, she was a great friend she just got too excited sometimes. But Albus didn't know what else to do and he knew that Rose would find out anyway if Scorpius didn't show up to the train or sat in a separate compartment.

"Oh I'm so sorry Al!" she said as soon as he finished and wrapped her arms around him and squeezed him tight. "I honestly don't know what to say this is so much, I mean I had guessed there was something going on between you but 6 months dating in secret?! And not telling me?! I know this isn't really a good time but what the fuck Albus!"

"Sorry."

"Don't be sorry! I was only joking...kind of, we have to think about the best plan of action now. You say you called his name and knocked a lot?" Albus nodded. "And he probably hates you right now," she looked at Albus who glared at her. "Oh shit sorry that sounded harsh didn't it, it'll be fine Albus, I think he just needs time and I think that you should owl him explaining everything as soon as you can, it's the only way."

"Yeah."

----

"Hey Hagrid, have you seen Scorpius?" Albus asked, even though they'd already searched the train and the platform.

"No, haven't seen 'im, everything OK?"

Albus wished he could say.

"Yeah fine, except he changed his mind about going home for the holidays, he's decided to stay at Hogwarts for a bit instead." He bit his lip after he said it, trying not to start crying again.

"Oh no, hope the boy's alright," he said, looking concerned.

"Yeah me too."
