March ~ 2022

"Get out of my way, Seth," I snap at the boy in front of me, his feeble attempts to stop me leaving getting on my nerves.

"Not until you hear me out."

"You have a girlfriend." I roll my eyes. "What kind of a bitch do you think I am?"

"I never thought you were a bitch!"

"Then why did you think I'd sleep with you when I have classes with your girlfriend?" I scoff and he shrugs.

"Everyone says-"

"Fantastic." I huff under my breath, a sharp pang of hurt spreading across my chest at the fact everyone here has their apparent opinions about me, despite having never even attempted to get to know me. "Goodbye Seth," I mutter, grabbing onto his shirt and pushing him aside so that I can grab onto the door.

He barely resists this time and I yank it open, almost falling out into the hallway before making my way down his stairs and out of the house, not missing the stares I receive from his house mates. I'm sure the rumor mill will be in overdrive this afternoon, tales of my sexual indiscretions making its way to Seth's girlfriend by three in the afternoon.

I shove my hands into my pockets, my face like thunder as I begin to make my way across campus, back towards my dorm room to console myself with Netflix all afternoon. A sudden ringing has me furrowing my eyebrows before digging my cell out and staring down at the unknown number.

"Hello?" I answer cautiously.

"Becky Gordon!" the familiar voice exclaims from the other side.

"Ellis?" I splutter, disbelief filling my tone. It's been two weeks since I saw him when I visited Savannah, and in two weeks I'd managed to not think of him once. Out of sight, out of mind.

"The one and only."

"How the hell did you get my number?"

"I can't tell you that."

"Seriously." I roll my eyes. "Delete it."

"I want to know how you are," he replies.

"Why? You've never cared before."

"That's not true! You've always been a girl to grab my attention."

"Gee, thanks," I mutter, shoving the door to the dorm building open.

"Why do you sound so miserable?" he asks.

"I'm not."

"Don't lie to me."

"It's just been a rough day," I admit.

"Talk to Ellis," he replies and I can't help but laugh slightly at his words.

"No! You aren't my therapist!"

"I can be," he replies in a teasing tone.

"No thank you," I retort, a smile on my face.

"Come on." He tries once more. "Tell me! I can make you feel better."

"How do you know?"

"How do you know that I can't?" He bites back and I grin as I enter my dorm room, instantly collapsing back on my bed with the phone pressed to my ear.

"There was a guy... I thought maybe he was my friend but he just tried to sleep with me."

"Oh, the horror!" Ellis exclaims.
