| Tick |
The clock ticks.
My foot vigorously taps out of nervousness.
Can they just get here already?
People around me silently talk amongst themselves about hanging out tomorrow or how the football game is going to go next Friday.
It seems as if time is always against me. The moments I need more time seems like everything is shortened. The moments I just need the day to end is too slow for my liking.
The sound of my teacher's heels force me to lift my head up to see if she has the results.
"I will be calling all of you individually to come retrieve and talk about your results."
She starts to call people off in order of their last name.
I groan.
It is going to take me awhile.
Having the last name Sashida sometimes is a bother.
I continue to tap the carrot shaped pen on the desk as I'm waiting. The white bunny on the side that was meant to push the ink fill out clicked into place if I hit the pen too hard. Curtesy of Vernon, It's now my favorite writing utensil.
"Akari Sashida?"
My name was called so I stand up to head to the teacher's desk. She hands me the yellow manila envelope.
"I'm proud of you. Carrot cake right?"
"Yes ma'am, thank you."
At this school, it's a tradition to provide a small desert for those that have passed. Knowing the bakery that they get everything at, I always had carrot cake. The same flavor I have been having ever since I entered this school.
The teacher hands me a small bakery box that held two slices of cake.
"I asked them to add an extra one."
"Oh, thank you."
I give her a slight bow and go back to my desk once again.
When I sit down, I open the envelope and skim through the papers given.
Chemistry Honors - 98.97%
Space science Honors - 99.98%
Geometry ll - 100.70%
Blah blah blah
Average - 99.896%
"Almost." I whisper under my breath.
I would've hated the fact that I only had less than 0.5% to have made the one hundred mark. Either way, I'm still satisfied. My parents aren't here so they can't physically scream at me and now I can care less if I reach 100.
"Ok class, you're dismissed. I'm proud of all of you this testing. Now all you have to wait for is the summer break. See you guys next week."
I gather my things and rush out to the school doors, making sure the cake doesn't move a lot.
The car sits at the front of the gates, waiting for me.
I enter the white vehicle and put my bag near my feet.
Shua turns to his right to look at me, "So how was school?"
I give him my wide gummy smile and put the envelope in his hands. As he reads through the papers I buckle my seatbelt and get myself situated in my seat.
"Aye~ Congratulations carrots."
I lift the bakery box to show him, "I also got an extra slice of cake, you want some?"
He looks through the clear film of the box. "Wow, it's carrot cake, my favorite."
"Really? Me too." He hums while handing me back my results.
He shifts the gear to drive and continues on the road.
The light turns red.
"You want to go to a park?"
"I think you forgot but I have work."
"I asked Uncle Mike if you can have a day off."
In genuine shock, "Uncle said yes?"
He replied with a hum.
"Ok then let's go."
We wait for the ticking of the traffic light so we can continue to our destination.
This was really boring. I don't get why you're still here.
