Nathan's POV

"Nathan what took you so long?! I told you to get home early."she was angry so I knew something had happened.

"Mom I told you I can't just come home early, because of you, I have soccer as that extra curriculum sport I must take."

"Yeah, but next time please warn me when you are going to come later than expected. I can't take care of her all day completely on my own, you know that."she explained

"Yes I know Mom, I'm sorry," I apologised feeling extremely guilty."But how has she been today?"

"She has been a lot better, she is actually starting to heal from the visible wounds" my mother explained sadly.

I glad she has been healing at least. I dont know what I would do if I were to lose her as well.

Annika's POV

" Mama! I'm home!" Shouted Annika as she got home from school.

"Oh hi Honey, I'm here in the kitchen" her mother shouted back, " I'm making amagwinya today". ( Amagwinya are a Xhosa dish also known as vetkoeks)

Annika had been very excited to here what her mother was now preparing. She quickly made her way to her room to complete that loads of homework she had received at school. "Its barely February and we are already writing tests" she complained.

A couple hours later her father had come home and she could tell he did because her little sister was always singing a song when he came home.

"Annika come down, supper is ready!"called her mother. Annika made her way down to find her family already digging in, without her. This was a normal recurrence for her. She was like an outcast in her own home and sometimes felt as of everyone had forgotten about her. At this point she was so hungry she decided to just let it go, again.

"So then Daddy, she said that she is going to make more money than me when she grows up just because she wants to be a principal and I want to be a teacher, so now i want to be a doctor." Mimi had been telling dad about her day at school which always took so long.

"I'm so sorry Mimi next time tell her your dad is the Minister, so you will have whatever you want."he tried reassuring her " Annika what do you want to be once you are finish high school?" asked dad, bringing the attention to me.

I have always dreamt of being an actress since I was very little. I was a very shy child but when it comes to public speaking and being in front of an audience, you would never guess I was shy.

Dad doesn't like my career choice as he wants me to continue his legacy by becoming Minister and being involved in politics. He insists that I have the necessary requirements and that I am very suited for the job, I agree but it is not what i love. I love entertaining people and portraying different characters.

I love telling purely South African stories and informing people about my culture, and I dont plan on perusing a career that is not gonna make me happy.

"Dad I stil want to be an actress" I stated hoping he would actually take it in this time.

"So nothing much has changed from when you were 8?" I nodded " You know that is not going to make you the type of money you need to be making, you have so much potential. Why cant you listen to me for once and be a politician?!"he was yelling at this point and I was unbothered because I am not changing my mind.

"Excuse me" I said as I left the table avoiding the unnecessary drama that was about to unfold and headed to my room.

Knock, knock. There was a knock at the door and I wasn't in the mood to be explaining myself right now.

"Go away!" I shouted back hoping the person on the other side of the door would get the hint and leave. Unfortunately they didn't.

"Is that any way to talk to your mother, Annika? I understand you are hurt and annoyed but I will not hesitate to slap that disrespect out of you." scared I hurried to go open the door for my mother, knowing she would take me up on that offer if I ignored her.

"Thank you" she walked in and sat on the edge of my bed indicating it was still a long night ahead of me.
