Today I woke up feeling terrible. After coming back from the walk yesterday I headed straight for the ice cream my mom had secretly stashed at the back of the freezer. I don't think she will notice though because she has tons of those down there. I devoured the ice cream in 10 minutes flat while watching re-run episodes of Keeping up with the Kardashians.
I head straight to the bathroom as soon as I wake up to get ready and then to the kitchen. Unusually there is nobody in the kitchen. Its unusual because every Sunday my mother wakes up extra early to make us all a breakfast.
wow that woman has alot of time on her hands.
As soon as I start looking for something to make for myself I hear a pair of feet coming down the stairs. Taking no note of her, my mother comes down and the volume of her voice early in the morning is enough to make me have a headache. "ANNIKA, WHERE IS YOUR DRESS?!"
"OMG mom" I say clenching my ears tightly. "Why would I have a dress on?" I am really confused at this point, my mother know I would much rather where jeans than a dress, hense why I don't own one. Except for the one my grandmother got me which I would not be caught dead wearing. "I told you we have to go to a special ball this morning, why aren't you dressed yet. You know how bad this is going to look on your dad's reputation if we arrive there late!" She continues explaining and it gets back to me that she did tell me that we had some ball to go to this morning.
"Xolo ke Mama, kodwa I don't own any dresses, you guys can just go without me it's totally ok." I say trying to get her off my case ( Sorry Mom but...)
She goes upstairs and comes back with a pink mermaid style dress and hands it to me. "Here wear this we are leaving in less that 10 minutes so we can avoid the hooligans on the roads." The hooligans she is referring to are the taxi drivers. South African taxi drivers are truly rare, the way they completely disregard the rules of the roads and everything that comes with is truly what completes the South African experience. If you aren't in a rush they are ok and you get to experience a whole show before you reach your destination, but when you are in a rush like us this morning try to avoid them at all costs.
I head upstairs and get ready for whatever this ball has to bring.
Nathan's POV
Last night my mother had alerted me that there is an event we have to attend early in the morning and I have dress fancy, which meant I have to where a tux, which she bought last night as well.
As we are getting closer to the city we are stuck in some congestion on the N2 as there is some taxi trying to fit into a space that is obviously not meant for a Quantum. We drive closer and closer to the location and my mom starts to panic even more. We reach the robots and they are turning red, but about 6 taxis flash one behind the other to reach the other side.
Arriving at the hotel we are 2 hours late and there are so many expensive cars in the valet way. I recognise a girl in a pink tight fitted dress pass by, brushing my suit lightly as Annika. She is too busy catching after her mother to notice that she drops her cellphone. I pick it up but by the time I hand it over she is out of sight. I decide to wait until we are inside to give her the phone.
We enter the hotel and my mother signs us both in and we are seated at table 6. We head into the huge hall and there I spot our table, but onstage there is the Minister giving what looks like an important speech. We take our seats and listen to what is being said. After about 2 more speakers I realise I have no idea what I am doing here. "Mom what exactly are we doing here again?" I ask her, she turns around and explains that there is an important announcement that is going to be made by the Minister later on.
The entire hall is dismissed to have a stretch and I take this as my opportunity to go to the bathroom. In the bathroom there is this really familiar rich blonde haired boy addressing a few boys by the sink. "And then this idiot drives right into my Farai boot making a dent on my number plate. I threw away that piece of rubbish now." The boys around him look very immersed into his story for some reason. I walk pass them when I hear my name being called.
"Oh look there goes Nathan Luke, I wonder why he has decided to show face here after the whole thing with his dad." All the boys laugh after hearing this and the blonde has a smirk on his face. Deciding to ignore their immature behavior I continue walking. "What, are we supposed to not mention how your dad stole R2.3 billion from a whole President or how he-" before he can finish that sentence I smash my fist into his jaw restricting him any further speech. "If you dare utter the rest of that sentence I will end you in this toilet." Being annoyed by his foolish behaviour I walk out of there not feeling the need to go to the bathroom anymore.
As I walked out I bump into a small figure. Looking down I see Annika then I see she was holding a tray of glasses and dropped it when I smashed into her.
