tobio kageyama was not the best at expressing himself, everyone knew at least that much. it wasn't like he didn't try to share his feelings, he really does try.

one thing everyone on the team knew for a fact was the first-year setters crush on the coach ukai's nephew.

y/n was a second year, he wasn't really a sports guy either (he was actually in the photography club) he only came to the volleyball practices because he didn't like to walk home and he was staying with his uncle for the time being.

y/n didn't mind looking up from his phone to watch the team play once in a while because he'd be lying if he said they weren't an amazing team. they all had good chemistry—even kageyama and hinata despite the constant yelling and hitting. but aside from that, karasuno was an amazing team altogether.

frankly, y/n liked watching kageyama's serves. he jumped really high and was extremely strong, you can even say he was a little envious of his skill.

y/n's lingering eyes never went unnoticed to kageyama himself, he felt a little more bashful to see y/n looking at him.

"y/n, you have all your stuff ready to go?" keishin asked his nephew when practice ended, "i'm going to make a quick call then we can leave, 'kay?"

y/n nodded and pack up a couple papers he was working on and put them in his backpack. the second year looked up in confusion when he saw a shadow in front of him, immediately recognizing the boy to be kageyama.

"oh, hello. do you need something?"

kageyama shook his head, his gaze falling off to the side as he stiffly held out his arm towards y/n, a white envelope clutched in his hand. it looked almost as if he didn't want to let it go, and he pulled the letter back once before letting y/n take it, dashing off shortly after.

y/n looked down at the envelope in confusion. he was about to open it when keishin had returned, leading him to shove the letter in his bag and followed him out.

the following day, y/n was watching the volleyball team practice again, only this time it was on his own accord. his uncle wasn't there today, so seeing him was quite a shock.

when it ended he waited patiently by the doors for a certain first year to come out of the changing room.

"kageyama!" he called out as soon as he saw the male walking with hinata out of the room. kageyama was about to walk back into the room when suga and daichi walked out, each grabbing one of his arms and dragging him over to y/n with innocent smiles.

"can i walk you home today?" the second year asked, shoving his hands in his jacket pockets.

"i'm...walking home—" kageyama was about to say he was walking with hinata, but the sunshine himself sent him a thumbs up and ran out the door. "alone..." he mumbled.

"is that a yes?"

kageyama only nodded, his eyes trained on the ground.

once they were far enough away from the school y/n spoke up, "so, i read your letter."

y/n glanced at the first year to see his reaction, but kageyama was still looking at the ground. sighing, he tugged the setter to a nearby bench, and pushed him to sit.

"i thought your letter was nice, for someone who always looks like they hate everyone you're really good at writing down what you feel," y/n spoke softly, reaching in his bag to pull out the perfectly folded letter, "but i—"

kageyama stood up briskly, he'd already prepared himself for rejection the night before but he doesn't think he'd be able to hear it, "it's okay, i know. you don't have to continue."

y/n shook his head and gently grabbed his arm to sit back down, "as i was saying, i can't really say i feel the same about you, but i don't know you. if you would like to...we can maybe, uh, go on a date? get to know each other?"

kageyama looked at the older male with wide eyes.

"i mean, obviously i won't be able to give you an answer right away but we can go on a couple dates—or hang out and stuff, see where it goes."

kageyama would honestly settle for being just friends if he had to, but y/n was actually willing to try this and he was pretty happy about that. so kageyama nodded his head quickly, "i'd like that very much!"

kageyama stood up, getting ready to leave before y/n decided he was definitely not y/n's type and changed his mind. "you won't regret this, i promise!"

with that, kageyama ran off, not giving y/n the chance to speak.

"my...number....i guess i'll give it to him tomorrow..." he muttered, slipping the love letter back into his bag with a small smile.

NOTE .

this was actually on of my stories i was trying to write but i had given up halfway cause i didn't like how i did it. so, i changed it up a bit to fit the oneshot format.

maybe when i regain the confidence to write it, i'll continue the story instead of leaving it in my drafts :D

anyways...skz repackage album 😳 i'm really gonna go broke 🤪🤪
