"Sorry that I haven't called, we have been busy." Molly said to her friend Nicole over the phone. "There has been a lot going on, but I didn't want to burden you with my problems, again."
"Girl, c'mon! We are friends, I tell you about my problems." Nicole replied. "Now tell me. What is going on over there in Mayberry?"
They laughed.
"Ok, this is going to sound crazy. Promise me that you will hear me out?"
"I promise. Now spill it."
Molly took a deep breath and told Nicole the whole story; the missing people, the monsters in the forest, Dan's odd behaviour. She left out the part about the creature's force feeding Dan. Molly just wanted to forget that ever happened.
When Molly finished her story "Well that is everything."
Nicole was silent, but Molly could hear that the line was still open. "Nicole? Say something!" Molly's voice rose a little in fear.
"Wow." Nicole finally replied. "That's crazy. Are you guys ok?"
"Oh, I almost forgot; Dan got in a bar fight and.."
"What?!" Nicole exclaimed. "Your Dan? A bar fight?"
"Yeah, exactly. He has gotten so...intense, confrontational. It's so unlike him. Then the guy he fought with got killed in his own yard. Two sheriff's showed up to question us about it."
"Holy crap! They didn't think Dan did it?"
"I don't know. They separated us for questioning."
"Typical cop MO."
"So Deputy Williams had me go outside, while Deputy Davis talked to Dan in the trailer. He asked me if Dan had a history of violence, I said no, of course. Then he asked if Dan had gone out again that night, after we got home from the bar. I told him that he didn't, I had the car keys and I would have known if he left."
"So what really happened to the guy?" Nicole asked.
"I saw a story about him on the news; his name was Billy Martin, his throat was cut and whoever did it left him in his backyard. But get this...Billy Martin's blood was almost drained from his body, there was very little on the ground."
"Girl, there is some crazy stuff going on out there. You all need to just leave and come home."
"We will be fine. We're almost done here, and then we wil be heading back to the City. And, I am ready to come back to NYU."
"Yeah! That's my girl." Nicole whooped. "You would not believe how bad this girl is that they put into the room with me."
"The sheriff asked us to stay in town, hopefully not for too long. They should catch the guy soon, then we will be able to come home."
"Why? Is Dan still a suspect?"
"I don't know. I think they have us under surveillance; there has been a car parked at the trailer across the street, Dan said no one lives there. I have seen the same car around town; they might be following us around."
