Jake was determined to get Milly out of the house. He checked the weather and found out would be a beautiful day to do so. At 9 am, it was already 86*. It would be hot but there were going to be blessed with a nice breeze. He made his way down the hall and knocked on the door.
Milly was staring at her computer. She wanted to email her parents but she had been warned not to make any contact to her parents. Whoever was after them could track them down by tracking the signal or something like that. She closed her laptop when there was a knock on the door. The hardwood floors were cold under her bare feet. She opened the door and found Jake, handsome as ever, standing in the hallway.
"Are you at the wrong room?" She was getting better at talking to him. Last night, she did a lot of thinking. Yes, she was stubborn but she knew she was in the wrong. She still wasn't ready to forgive him yet. She didn't need saving.
Jake laughed. "No, I'm looking for you. You're getting out of the house today. I got a surprise for you. Dress in something cool. It's going to be hot today. I'll be downstairs waiting."
Jake didn't give Milly a chance to reply before he turned on her and made his way towards the stairs. She stared at him till he disappeared from her sight. She closed and the door and huffed. Milly tried thinking of different things they were going to do but nothing came to mind.
She rummaged through the dresser that she packed away her belongings in. She pulled out a pair of khaki shorts and a light blue plaid shirt. She pulled on a tank top before putting on her shirt. She completed her outfit with a pair of cream colored sandals. She applied some light make up and pulling back her silky dark hair. Twenty minutes later she made her way downstairs.
Milly found Jake sitting at the table. She cleared her throat. He looked up and smiled at her. "So, what do you have planned for us today, Jake?"
He grinned at her. "It's a surprise."
Milly rolled her brown eyes. "Seriously? I hate surprises."
Hearing her say that made him grin even wider. "Trust me, you'll love this."
Trust him? That was going to be hard to do. She trusted him before and look where she ended up. She huffed. "Fine, I'll hold you up to your word. If I don't love it, you'll pay for it."

"Seriously, Jake," Milly asked as she shut the door to the old pickup truck. "The fair?"
"You like it?"
She couldn't help but to be in a better mood. "Yes."
The made their way into to the ticket booth. There was a woman in her late fifties who greeted them. "Well, if it isn't Jake. I haven't seen you since..."
Jake frowned. "Ya, it's been awhile Aunt Janine. how have you been?"
"Been better, Sandy's death has been getting to me the last week. It's the three year anniversary since her death... But I'm blessed. I'm still alive and kicking."
Jake laughed. "That's good. I'll let Alice and Jason know I saw you."
"Okay. Tell 'em I said hi and I love 'em... now, what can I get you?"
"I'll take two wristbands."
She nodded and produced two wristbands. Jake handed her forty bucks and waved to her.
"So, who was that?"
"Alice and Jason's aunt."
"Oh."
"Ya, so where do you want to go first?"
They took off in the direction of most of the rides. Five hours later, they were exhausted and their feet hurt. They collapsed into the truck, laughing hysterically.
"I can't believe that little kid threw up all over his mother. Her expression was priceless."
Jake laughed. That's why they didn't eat anything before going on the rides. The fair had some of the fastest carnival rides. "I know."
They chitchatted idly as they made their way back to the house. When they got back to the house, Milly looked over at Jake. "Thank you, Jake. I actually had fun today."
He flashed her a grin full of pearly whites. "You're welcome. I am just glad you enjoyed yourself."
As they entered the house, the smell of fried chicken smaked them right in the face, causing both of their stomachs to growl. They entered the kitchen to find Alice standing over the stove. "Wow, Alice. It smells great in here."
She whipped around, startled. "Damn Jake, way to give a girl a heart attack. I'm almost drew my gun on you."
He chuckled and held his hands up. "Jeez, love you too. How was your day?"
"It was good. Got the barn all cleaned out. Went and visited some family. All in all, a good day. I kinda miss being home." Alice got a far off look in her eyes for a moment before coming back to reality. "How was your day?"
"Good. We went to the fair and we saw Janine." Jake filled Alice in on her aunt and Alice told stories about her growing up. They were laughing so hard, their stomachs hurt and tears were streaming down their face.
Jason walked in, his face filled with grief. "Jake, you better sit down. I got some bad news."

"What do you mean, Shayln has been kidnapped?!"
"Exactly what it sounds like. Antonio and his mean killed three out of four of the agents protecting your sister and her husband. Shawn is in the hospital with two broken ribs, a concussion, and a bullet wound."
"Dammit," Jake cried before sending his fist into the wall. "I want to know how this happened. I need to go speak to Shawn and see what he knows."
Jason shook his head. "We can't let you do that. The Director has already put someone on the case. you can't get any more involved than what we already are."
Jake shook his head. He wasn't going to just sit around and have fun while agents are out in the field dying to protect his family. He should have been there to protect him. Jake looked over at Milly. He couldn't stay here and he couldn't leave her here. She wasn't going to like what he had planned but she would just have to get over it.
"I can't just sit around and do nothing, Jason. You know that."
Jason rubbed his head. "I know, Jake. But you aren't sitting around doing nothing. You're keeping Milly safe."
Jake groaned and gave up. He made his mind up, tonight he was leaving.
