Y/N POV
*beep* *beep* *beep*
I'm woken by the disgusting sound of my alarm clock. I turn to Nadia and she's hanging off the bed, she usually is though. My bed is quite small and she's freakishly tall. 6'2 to be exact, luckily her boyfriend had been empowered by TMG and Blackbear's song "Short Kong's Anthem." I picked up my pillow and hit her in the face. She grabs the pillow and throws it right back at me. "Fuck off," she groans.
"We gotta get ready for school, loser." I put on a pair of baggy jeans and a floral crop top. We finish getting ready and hop in my car to head off to school.
The first 3 periods of the day went slower than molasses. Luckily it's my favorite time of day...lunch time. Nadia has a different lunch than I do, so I usually just go to the library during my lunch. Today there is a staff meeting in the library so I am reduced to sitting at a table all alone. This sucks ass. I pull a sandwich out of my back back and begin eating
"Hey" an unfamiliar voice comes from behind me.
"What do you want?" I spit out and turn around only to see Jake. I blush slightly.
"Damn, Howard's right you are mean." I immediately remember why I must suppress my feelings for Jake. I snap back around and roll my eyes
"Hey, I'm sorry. I was just teasing. The library, as you know, is closed. Mind if I sit? I could really use some company." I'm a bit surprised by the sudden kindness.
"Sure, it's not like I have anyone to sit with anyways." I move my back pack off of the seat next to me allowing him to sit next to me.
"Sooo... What's your team thinking about for your robot design?" He asks
"Well, I'm on 3D printing, assembly, and QA. So I wouldn't know what the guys are thinking yet. How about you guys?"
"Oh you know, basic robot stuff." He dismissed me a bit.
"Aren't you part of the designing portion? If you share some ideas with me I can help workshop them and provide some of my own ideas."
"I am a part of the designing, but I don't want you stealing my ideas or using them against me." He says sounding even ruder than before
"You asked me for my designs first. I thought we were just work shopping our ideas together?!?" I defend myself
"Are you suggesting that I tried to steal your designs?"
"Well not until you just said that, you ass." I grab my backpack and kicked my chair to push it in. I violently threw the rest of my sandwich in the trash and stormed away. I didn't really have a place to go so I just stood outside my fourth period. Jake and Howard approached me while waiting for fourth to start. "What do you want Howard?" To my surprise Jake starts talking first
"I wanna say sorry. I shouldn't have tried to-"
"Shut up Jake... Y/N, I'm tired of arguing like school kids-"
"We are school kids." I interrupt him. He just stares at me I laugh lightly. "anyways, carry on."
"Like I was saying, I'm tired of fighting. I say we settle this once and for all"
"What are you proposing?" I ask
"A side bet. Mr.Darnell's rules state that once we press start on the robots, we aren't allowed to control them, that way it's about the robot and not the skill of player."
"Okay?"
"My team against yours. Remote controlled sumo bots."
"Bring. It. On." I smirk at him
"I'll speak to my team, and we'll arrange the details later." I say as civilly as possible. And the bell rings.
"Until fifth period." He extends his hand. I accept.
"Until then." I walk into my fourth period thinking about how my team will absolutely crush him.
"Okay class today we will be finishing Jaws." My film analysis teacher began the class. But all I could think of was how I'm gonna beat Howard, or what would happen if I lost- no. I'm winning this. The bell rang and I walked to robotics. I saw Howard, but my day was less ruined that it usually is when I catch a glimpse of him. I sit down next to Nadia, while Mr.Darnell is doing the class intro i whisper to her about everything Howard said to me.
As soon as he finished the intro I walked to my work station and told the team about the plan and merged groups to work out the rules.
"There will be 3 rounds. Each round a person from each team will compete to compare team strengths. The two people who don't get to compete will be referees. We will compete next Friday, at Y/N's house." Howard turned and pointed at me.
"Why my house?"
"Because you have a big driveway, and we need space for all our equipment. Anyways, all building rules will remain the same as the assignment, with the exception for getting rid of sensors and controlling the bots remotely. I will draft on paper guidelines, but does everyone understand the gist of it?." Everyone nods their heads, and we get straight to work on our bots. The fifth period end bell rang, and we went on our five minute break. I met up with Nadia and she asked me more about the out of school robot battle. I told her about all the rules and how it was next Friday.
"Wait, but aren't the Langston's coming next Friday?" She asked me
"Yeah but they're probably not gonna get to my place until later that night." The bell rang once again telling us to get back to our class. I meet up with my group and we just have one more crucial detail to work out.
"Alright gamers, what's our team name?"
"How about just that? Gamers! And then We could have a little game controller for our logo" Thomas asked.
"No that's our name!" Howard shouts from his table next to us.
"Uh, Okay then...anyone else?" I look to the group. Then Chris clears his throat.
"How about The Royals? Our logo could be a crown, and we could wear crowns to the battle to really intimidate." We all go quiet, thinking it over. I look around and see everyone looking to me for approval. I guess I'm the team leader now?
"That is what I call an epic team name, suck on that nerds" I gloat at team gamers. Alright let's get to work Royals.
