Dream POV
It's waaay too early. Today is my first day of summer vacation after graduation yesterday and my family likes to spend the summer in Seattle with their friends. I usually have school but since I graduated, I'm out of school a bit early. I don't love flying on airplanes and honestly I'd rather just stay home and Twitch stream with my friends, George and Sapnap. I remember the night I was told I had to go with them. "But mom, I have to stream. I have a profile to uphold." I whined at her.
"You can just play your video games there... Or better yet, take a break. you're constantly making stuff for that Youtube channel of your's."
"But I'm afraid of flying."
"So you want to fly out and see George ALL the way in the UK, but a family vacation, in the country I might add, is just too much?"
"Mom. you know that's not what this is about."
"Every year we go to the L/N's and I always make excuses for you. I'm sure they'd doubt that you even exist if they hadn't come down to Florida, the summer you were born."
"But who's gonna take care of Patches, huh?" I said as a final attempt to stay home.
"Your sister still needs to finish school, so she will stay home with Patches. End of discussion." She walked away from me before I could think of anything else to say.
Now I'm staring at an empty suitcase, wondering what to pack. My flight leaves in 2 hours.
My mom comes into my room, "Clayton. Is that an empty suitcase I'm looking at?"
"Yeah I don't know what to pack."
"We're gonna be there for like 2 months and you're packing the day we leave?!"
"I've got it, I just need to put some clothes in a bag it's all chill"
"Alright, I don't want to hear any complaining gotta when you forget something"
"I won't forget anything." My mom scoffs and leaves the room.
I finish packing my suitcase and backpack, and load my stuff into the car and we head to the airport. As I'm walking through airport security, the reality of the situation sets in. I'm getting on a plane within the hour and I'm not looking forward to it. At least I can try and sleep on the way there. After we landed, we all walked to baggage claim and then to a rental car shop. I wasn't expecting how hot it would be here, thank god for AC in cars. We were heading for the L/N's house, which is about an hour away. I'm sitting in the back seat of the car listening to "Vertigo" by Derek Fein. while staring out the window.
The drive from SeaTac to their house didn't feel so long, it was almost therapeutic watching the city pass by on the highway. I begin to wrap my headphones up as we drive through their neighborhood.
We pull up to the house, when I see something really weird happening in the front yard. There's a group of people wearing crowns gathered around a table outside. There's one girl in particular, standing on a chair?
"Okay, were gonna drop you here and then do some grocery shopping, okay?" I hear a voice from the front of the car.
"Wait, what? Are you guys aren't coming in right now?" I ask my parents.
"We've already met everyone, so you're going to introduce yourself while we get the groceries for tonight's dinner" my mom states. I huff and get out of the car on the side of the car that faced away from the driveway we're parked in front of. I then hear the girl on the chair talking. I decide to hang back and wait to walk out.
"Today is a glorious day. A day where we will learn from our losses in the battle, and ultimately win the war!" I giggle a little bit, trying to figure out what's happening. "The war against the type of people who argue with the teacher" I cant figure out what they're talking so I think I should just walk out and introduce myself. "When we're all just trying to get through the day-" she stops talking when she sees me. She slowly lowers the cup she was holding high in the air, my breath hitched and my face heats up as we made deep eye contact. It feels like we're lost in time together.
"Earth to Y/N, who is this guy?" I hear the other girl ask, and were pulled from the moment.
"Oh, uh... good question Nadia" They all look at me for an answer. I should probably introduce myself and stop standing in silence.
"I'm Clay." I wave, a little shocked Y/N didn't know what I look like. I know I don't ever make the trip out here but she must see the Christmas cards we send. Oh well.
"Ooh, so this is Clay. Y/N you really lucked out with this roommate." Thomas and I both shot a look at Nadia for saying that. I laugh and finally muster more than two words to say to the group of people in front of me.
"So what the hell is all...this...about?" I look around at everyone, while the girl on the chair steps down. She speaks, but much more timid than she was when speaking the group.
"We are currently about to have a robot battle."
"No way, that's sick. May I ask why?" I question. Before the girl who I'm assuming is Y/N could speak, the other girl speaks up.
"Oh yeah, our final project for school was a robot battle and Y/N here, wanted a side bet with her high school rival" they all laughed at what she said. We hear another car pull up, and I realize my parents have already left. Out of the car steps a very short, and somewhat greasy looking man.
"Howard" Y/N spat with a sour look on her face.
"Y/N... good to see you're being very mature about this" Howard rolls his eyes. There's an uncomfortable silence. I decide to speak to cut the tension.
"Okay. So robot battle. I'm still confused about what exactly is happening."
