!! Warnings: mentions of bloodshed, war and accident !!
As the golden embers died away enshrouding the once beautiful land under a veil of onyx ash, as dawn broke and light fell upon the remnants of what once used to be a treaty of peace and a tracery of promises that were untold, as people celebrated in malice; it was the beginning of an end to a story. A story whose pages were now torn apart, the fragments thrown in the ash scattered all over the ground.
Sucking in a breathe, the princess ran from the ashen war field to her castle before anyone caught her helping their foes. Stay close to your friends but closer to your enemies, she told herself as she constrained herself to run back to the place where she was supposed to belong.
On her way she crossed the lake, the sole reason that brought her here in the first place. As she looked back at the once picturesque land, there was an odd silence enveloping it which felt piercing to her ears. Nobody could have been able to surmise the destruction it became home to. Her thoughts echoed in her head, thoughts of how her own people set ablaze her home, making her feel sick to her very core.
Her kingdom had won the war which they themselves began but she hadn't. Neither was she able to save her love nor the side she fought from. And as tranquil as anyone would have deemed the lake to be, to her it was only the reflection of a love that she'll forever have in her heart but not in her hands.
The truth was as clear as the crystalline water that was swaying along the breeze, it was the ice in people's hearts that set her home on fire.
As she apparated into the castle, she walked in slowly and quietly. The carpeted floor, those chiselled walls and pillars and those acrylic paintings and family portraits that used to be a token of her childhood memories and some of the most utopian moments of her life that were unaltered by pride, greed and envy, now just served the purpose of raging her because it was all an illusion. An illusion that she believed in and hoped for.
She felt the urge to break down every single thing that reminded her of the lie she used to think of as home but she did not bat an eyelid for she knew it would bring her nothing so she tiptoed her way to her room, making sure nobody sees her sword that flew in the face of the people she was supposed to protect and contrariwise.
There's a heavy feeling in her heart as she entered her room. It was a place which was supposed to bring her placidity but today all it gave was a sense of unfamiliarity. With every step, it felt as if needles were prickling her heart and tearing it apart. She knew she shouldn't see her reflection yet she couldn't direct her steps away from the mirror.
And the moment she saw herself, it felt like all air inside of her had been knocked out. She couldn't have tried any harder yet failure came to embrace her like an old friend. Why weren't they meant to be? Her heart was now pounding in her ears and as she listened to it beat, she knew it. Faith can bring about miracles and she believed in her love so much as to trade her life for it. And if not for her then for the lives to come.
With determination strong enough to cut through a rock, she sweeped together pieces of her heart that was snapped like a twig and got dressed in her formal white attire, leaving her room with a fire raging inside of her.

The sound of an engine roaring buzzed in his ears and a funny feeling settled in his stomach as the car picked up speed. Roads passed by in a blur and the feeling of apprehension only got intense as the car went through the streets.
He didn't even realise how hard he was clutching the leather of the seat until he looked down at his hands that were a ghostly pale colour. And just as he moved his head to take a look infront of him, he saw a black car standing still in the middle of the road. Despite the other car being very clear in his field of vision, the car he was in didn't stop and accelerated straight towards it.
We're going to collide, the thought rang through his mind but he wasn't able to say it out loud, being too stuck in the moment and the sheer panic it brought to do anything. He closed his eyes as fear creeped in every inch of his body but the impact never came. Everything slowed down. And when he opened his eyes, he was standing at the road side instead of being seated in a car.
Exactly when he inhaled a breath of relief, he heard the sound of a crash. He saw the car which he guessed was the one he was in, hit the black car, sending it tumbling down the street. When it came to a halt, he just blanked out. He knew he should run to help but he was so out of it that he could feel the numbness slowly traveling up from his ice cold fingers, the breeze felt like a whiplash on his skin and the sound of the leaves rustling only added to his horror.
Just when he thought that the person had passed out, he saw someone stretching their hand out the through the window and banging on the crushed door in hopes of getting someone to help them.
He was at wits end. He couldn't move at all. Seeing the blood that was spilling from under the car, he knew the person didn't have much time yet he couldn't get himself to take a single step. It was as though he was frozen in time and the entire world around him was moving just as normally, leaving him spiralling in the same moment.
The hand was gradually slowing down, an indication of the person loosing consciousness. And when the hand finally hit the ground lifelessly, he felt his heart plung down to his stomach. The world around him spun and he felt himself being dragged in a whirlpool of void until he woke up from his sleep, panting like crazy and sweat trickling from his scalp.
He looked around to take in the familiar setting of his room. It took him a few minutes to calm down and despite his breathing getting normal again, he spent the entire night gazing at the ceiling.
Why again?
