Mirabel
Mirabel was experiencing the worst Monday of her life that morning. She had a test by 8:00 am and an assignment that was due by 7:00 am
She woke up and got ready for school early, by 6: 30am she was prepared to leave the hostel, at the last minute she decided to cross-check if her assignment was in her bag, that was when realized she could not find her assignment
She had turned the room upside down looking for her assignment. She started her search from their study table to her bed then to her wardrobe.
Then she proceeded to search her roommate's side of the room, her study table, and her bed but could not find it, so she searched the wardrobes, kitchen, waste bin, and the bathroom. Nothing. Then she picked up her phone and called Nafisat her roommate.
"Hello, good morning," she greeted.
" Good morning, how was your night?"
"Forget all this greeting please, I can't find my assignment and I have to submit it in the next ten minutes"
" Oh, that is bad. When last did you see it?"
" Two days ago when I kept it inside my bag, but now it's not there and it's nowhere to be found"
"Two days ago?" Ohh" Mirabel could hear Nafisat laughing.
" Why are you laughing? This is no joke, how am I supposed to rewrite a 79 paged assignment on Chinese history in ten minutes?"
"Remember two days ago, we were joking about armed robbers coming to steal your assignment and you said you would rather die than to rewrite it?"
"Yeah"
"Yes, you later hid the book under your bed, saying you didn't trust blessing."
"Ohh!" Mirabel exclaimed kneeling to check under her bed and there it was.
" I told you, you were overreacting"
" I was not. Didn't you see the way she was looking? You know she begged me to do her own for her and I refused"
"Yeah, she was angry that day"
"That was why I was scared" Mirabel took the book and kept it inside her bag.
"If you say so. Can you get to school before 7?"
" No, i doubt it. I just pray that I don't fail this course"
" You will not fail it"
" Don't you have lectures today?"
Mirabel thought Nafisat would have been back home last night. Although for about a month now, Nafisat had been spending the weekend with her boyfriend but she always comes home on Sunday evening.
" Yes I have lectures but I will not attend"
" Did you tell Muhammad?"
"No, why will I tell him?"
" So that he will know that you are missing lectures just to be with him" from what Mirabel gathered about Nafisat from her coursemate, Nafisat has the highest CGPA in her department.
" I will be back today"
" Be warned, I scattered the room. Take care of it when you get back, Alright?" Mirabel hanged up before Nafisat could answer her. She picked her bag and ran off to school. When she got to school around 7:30 am, the course representative had not yet submitted the assignment.
" Are you ready for the test?" Chioma her coursemate who she always sit with in lectures asked
"I don't know, I just pray the questions are from the part I read." she looked away from her summary
" Me too, the topics are too plenty to cover a test." From chioma looks, Mirabel could tell she didn't sleep the night before
" We will pass it. Just don't stress yourself too much." A little word of encouragement
"Amen ohh" chioma turned to her notes
After test, chioma looked happy even if she was complaining that she didn't answer two questions. Mirabel didn't want to tell chioma she answered all the questions, she didn't want to come off as a show off
" How about you, how did you do?" Finally asking Mirabel
" There were some questions I was not sure of but I tried my best." They were both by the park waiting for the a means of transportation back to town. The perks of staying off campus
"Ok, I'm sure you did well." They both turned to their right where a Red range rover honked from a distance
"Let's go, our ride is here." Chioma has a car she hasn't driven before. It's practically her roommate's car, Joyce
"Okay" they walked to her car. Chioma got in the passenger seat while Mirabel slide into the back seat
"Driver, take me to Tanke" Mirabel tapped on the driver's seat from the back. They all laughed
"Are you okay?" Joyce chuckled " I told you to stop calling me a driver, I kill people for a living." They've had this joke a thousand times and it still felt new each time
"Just don't kill us with your bad driving" Mirabel answered
"Haha very funny" Joyce said proudly, joyce is an excellent driver. She started the car and drove out of the school park
"You know, I'm looking for a new driver. Mirabel are you interested?" Chioma teased from the side
" You are mad" Joyce and Mirabel answered together which again started another round of laughter
" If we have an accident, it will be because you guys keep distracting me"
"Just keep your eyes on the road." Mirabel looked out through the window as the school buildings fated out of her sight
