"Alright, so you're telling me your house was broken into by someone using... magic ma'am?" The policemen asked professionally. He couldn't believe someone supposedly broke into this woman's house using the mythical arts. Usually, the people performing magic are either performers, wizards-witches, soldiers, or ordinary people with magical powers. Could this perp be a dropout wizard or witch using their gifts to rob people?
"Yeah. The guy or gal robbed me blind. They took my necklace, lip gloss, everything," The woman sitting in her chair said before slamming her hands on her thighs. After some note taking along with lifting his head up and down in a slow yet steady manner, he makes his decision.
"Ok, I'll get a team down there along with some magicians to identify the perp," The man said before hopping back onto his computer to make the appointment.
"Thank you so much, Lieutenant Carter," The woman in question said before she left the building. While walking back to her apartment, the woman gets greeted cheerfully by the new kids on the block.
"Good morning, ma'am," Shadow Bird said as he pretended to tip his imaginary hat to the gal. She only politely nods her head while smiling at them. After she leaves, another friendly face greets them.
"Ahh, I see we got another wannabe master thief on our hands," One detective said cockily.
"Yeah, yeah. Go ahead, Ms. Prentice. Make fun of me in the holding cells, why don't ya?" Detective Prentice herself giggles at this as he takes the dude away for his crime.
"You kids keep up the good work," Detective Prentice said to them as they nodded to her in a happy yet relaxed manner.
"Thanks, Kaylee," Asori said before she walked out the door. The team then witnessed an investigation going around in the form of a security camera-shaped machine doing a scan of two criminals involved in a mugging case. They looked horrible to say the least. In fact, all they wanted to do is just get the scan over with and get to prison. The Alta Heroes couldn't blame them. They deserved it. Asori makes some mental notes for herself on how this machine works. How it worked looks simple: the machine just scanned the guys, incorporated its data on the policemen's phones, the policemen then sent the data to their superiors, and the crooks are truly and fairly taken into custody.
"Well well," Lieutenant Carter said casually. The teens themselves look back at him with small smiles still on their faces.
"How've you kids been?" He asked genuinely.
"Well Dennis, we've been searching for an arcade. Besides that, nothing more," Jayden foretold him.
"Ahh, well Oscar N Boys' arcade is just around RSBC," Lieutenant Carter said with his pinkie finger pointing to the right of him.
"RSBC?" Ashley asked with her hands in her hoodie pockets.
"Rebecca Snow's Brain Clinic," Dennis classified. He then takes out his phone and has it project the place to the teens. Impressive. That's what Asori thought. Their phones can be like holograms when the time asks for it. The place looks like a stereotypical haunted mansion. The forest green tops and pitch-black bottoms are true indicators of this place's supposed hauntedness. Besides its rather bleak color scheme, the building itself appears like any normal institution. Its front side is stainless steel with windows here and there, the front door being near two happy-faced decorated columns, a makeshift dragon water fountain spat an azure color in beautiful motion, and its name sign laid strong in the aqua blue grass having just been planted.
"Huh. Interesting place." Asori, without thinking, had her finger click on the object. It took them to a place where it showed the medical room. This actually appeared to be the very same room they met some of the other police excluding Dennis for the first time.
"Ohh, sorry about that," Asori said, her hands folding behind her in shame.
"Don't be intimidated by that place," Dennis said calmly just before putting his phone away.
"Like you guys, there's a ton of good people who work at RSBC to help others get better mentally." The Alta Heroes honestly love that. To think people actually give a damn about helping those who are struggling and aren't using them for self-gain really touches their hearts.
"Sweet," Asori said before she had her phone out for the address.
"Here's the address," Dennis said before she showed her the address. After typing it down at a speed that matched Aubrey's fast fist fighting, the Star Wars geek smiles proudly at the lieutenant.
"Thanks for the tip, LC. See ya later," Asori said as she and the other heroes wave to the smiling policemen, the man himself waving back. The five-member squad is now walking through the streets with Asori acting as their navigation girl.
"Alright, according to the GPS on my phone, we should be getting there soon," Asori said as her eyes lock onto the screen. However, just as they hit the place known as Rebecca Snow's Brain Clinic, the eyes of the redheaded gal lock onto another place of importance.
"Oh look. It's Sam's shop," Ashley said as she points towards the comic shop.
"And according to what their hours are, they're not gonna open till about one," Asori said before looking up at her team. Taking only a mere two-second glance at each other, the teens get inside this place in order to pass some time.
"Yo! Anything, Nerds?!" The all too familiar to them shout of their friend Sam hollered. The team glances toward her with cheerful smiles in response.
"Yo, Sam!" Ashley said proudly.
"I see you guys are looking for some sweet deals," Sam said, the comic gal taking note of their curious eyes all over what she's selling.
"Indeed we are, comic gatekeeper," Shadow Bird quips. His hands and eyes soon catch wind of a particular book as he observes it head to toe. The rest of the squad do the same with each other's interests varying from good to bad. For Aubrey, it only took the cover of an action novel for her to be interested in this tale of living in the fast lane. However, upon her eyes reading only three of the pages, Aubrey sat it back down, bored already of the generic plotline. Jayden only took one look at a particular manga book before he puts it down in disgust. If it's a sequel that shouldn't be there, then why are people making 'em. It painfully reminds him of Boruto: Naruto Next Generations, a series about Naruto's clone-like brat of a son, someone whom Jayden clearly hates among many other fictional characters. Sighing, Jayden goes on to try and find other books worthy of his interest and not hacks trying to finish an already completed story. Ashley's search for books is nothing special. She just couldn't find one that spoke to her most. But that doesn't mean she'll give up. Asori had no words when her sights are set on the holy grail. All the Star Wars novels are there. Dark Empire from the Expanded Universe timeline. The Darth Vader: Dark Lord of the Sith series from Disney's Star Wars. It was all there. Her inner fangirl took over as her eyes and mouth are wide open at the sight of pure heaven. Even though she's silent, she's giggling with joy.
"How many bad guys ya clobbered?" Sam asked, herself growing bored of the deafening silence that has protruded her store for the past five minutes.
"About twenty-four crooks including the one before we got here," Shadow Bird declared softly while skimming through comic books.
"Have you been to Oscar N Boys before, Sam?" Ashley asks Sam before her sights caught wind of a new comic she's never seen before.
"Oh yeah. Nevin loves that place. In fact, whenever he's not busy, grounded, or even both on rare occasions, he's always there trying to set new high scores. They've got a ton of great consoles." Sam began enacting intense hand gestures that relate to the games she's talking about.
"There's a few beat 'em ups which are straight bangers," Sam said while boxing with air.
"There's also some dancing, racing, and even yoga games that are pretty kek," Sam foretells when performing the motions related to the games. Sam's eyes soon catch wind of the comic Ashley held close to her.
"The Checkered Swordsman?" Ashley had lifted her gaze toward Sam once that name had been called.
"Ahh, that gem," Sam said before she hoped over the counter she worked at and strolls over toward her friend.
"It may look like your typical antihero story up close, but it sure as hell isn't once you get hooked into his story," Sam casually explains to Ashley. Ashley simply gets back to where she was and ignores Sam's second reply.
"I see you're already hooked, huh?" Sam boasted. Once that reply went and came, Sam goes over to Asori, though not before saying these words.
"That's what I thought." Asori, having taken a break from silly eyeing the Star Wars collection, had her reading go to this particular gem. It wasn't just this book's cover nor its introduction that hooked her into this story. The mere depressing vibe that the main character leaves her with obviously spoke to her. It spoke to her in ways that she honestly finds quite scary.
"Alex Prescott, I see?" Asori jumps a bit before she calms down and nods her head at Sam.
"Is Alex someone very popular here?" Asori asked only for her question to come back at her with the utter arrogance that is Sam's admiration for Alex's books.
"Umm, by Alex, you mean Alex "the most badass horror writer in all of Fic-City" Prescott, right?" Asori's look of dumbfoundedness made Sam guilty. So in order to counteract this guilt, Sam apologies in her own way.
"Ohh right. You guys aren't from around here, aren't you?" Sam said, herself chuckling awkwardly along with rubbing the back of her head.
"Nope. We're a couple of Earth kids who moved here two weeks ago. Nothing more, nothing less," Asori said more casually than her comic fanatic friend.
"Ok. Well, be sure to take your time here. We've got plenty of stuff you can idle at," Sam said, her words meaning more than all five heroes just hanging out at her shop.
"Really?" Asori said in an inquisitive manner.
"Yeah. We've got a ton of cool stuff," Sam said. Shadow Bird's voice soon takes over the conversation just to please Sam's eardrums.
"Speaking of cool stuff," Shadow Bird said while holding a comic book out to Sam. "how much for this Transformers look alike?" Sam's smile continues being on her face as she backflips over toward the register.
"Twenty bucks, my dude," Sam said before the cool twenty-dollar bill entered her hand. Having it scanned by the cashchecker, the green light sound rang off which gave Sam the clearance to give Shadow Bird the book.
"Anyone else?" The rest of the team gave the young comic nerd their books. Well, Ashley and Asori had their books bought from the gal due to everyone else having no interest in the books being sold as of right now.
"Ahh, business is good between us I see?" The team nodded their heads in approval of her words.
"Hell yeah. We're definitely comin' back for these babies when we get a chance," Ashley responds as they walk off towards continuing their adventures.
"Keep up the good work, Sam!" Asori said before she held the door for the team.
"See ya later!" Sam said before the team walks out the door. The two girls and the vigilante had to drop their stuff off back at the house first before they could continue their adventure in Fic-City. As they walked around the town, the watch on Asori's phone told the team it wasn't one yet.
"Alright gang, shall we do lunch?" Jayden asked his friends.
"You've read our minds, Jayden," Ashley said just after she felt her stomach growl. The team then enters Dustin's and takes a booth that would house five people sitting down. Soon after their arrival, a boy around their age takes their order.
"Hello, boys and girls. What may I get started for you today?" Nevin said, his electronic notepad locked and loaded for the job at hand.
"Let me have the triple stack burger with regular fries and a Pepsi," Jayden said casually.
"I'm having the buffalo sauce burger with regular fries and a Coke. That and more buffalo sauce on the side please," Ashley patiently demands.
"I'll get the bacon with Swiss cheddar burger. I'll also have a Dr. Pepper to drink and string fries on the side please," Asori politely requests.
"Mine will be the same as hers with sharp cheddar, steak fries, garlic sauce, and a Mountain Dew," Aubrey cheerfully asks.
"And get me the jalapeño double stack burger with extra hot sauce. My drink will be a root beer with steak fries on the side," Shadow Bird confidently orders.
"Comin' right up, Alta Heroes," The young man said just after he finished the ordering process. Just after he left, the team chilled at their booth without any interruption. However, only one interruption manages to enter the quiet atmosphere, her voice being loud enough to catch their attention.
"Hey Mommy, look!" One girl of five years, one reminding them of a girl they saved long ago, is the one who caught their attention.
"It's those Alta Heroes!" The girl shouts once again. Yep, she's a fangirl. This amused the team, but it didn't amuse her mother.
"Don't yell like that," Sternly scolds the mother in a quiet manner in order to attract no attention. The girl shrivels up to tell her mom she was scared by her tone. Being quick to realize this, the woman took a deep breath and, once she knew no one stared at them anymore, leaned down to her size in a more gentle manner.
"Who are they, baby doll?" The mother softly asked.
"It's those Alta Heroes," The little girl manages to say in a calmer manner.
"Ya know, the ones who've been here fighting bad guys," She also said.
"Oh yes. I've also heard they helped Grandma walk back to her apartment two days ago," The mother said while gently stroking her cheek. She then gives a loving kiss to her daughter's scalp before she begins holding her close to her.
"Remember to use your indoor voice next time, ok?" The mom whispers to her baby doll.
"Ok, Mommy," The girl said softly. Her tone clearly shows her mom she's guilty over causing a scene like that. Feeling guilty herself, the mom gave her daughter another kiss on her scalp.
"You're not in trouble, baby," The mother whispered to her baby doll just before she gives yet another kiss to her scalp.
"Mommy loves you," She sweetly said to the little girl she adores so much. She then gives a wave to the team across from them before she and her daughter continue waiting for their meal. The team waves back at them before they talk about things that are on their mind.
"So Aubrey, how's Viv and Ariana doing?" Ashley asked sincerely.
"They're good. Ariana's almost done with her math teacher that she says is a total bitch," Aubrey said in a casual manner.
"Really? Just how bitchy is she?" Ashley questioned after she scoffs and before she leans back in her spot.
"Ariana said the only reason she's teaching math is 'cause she has no life," Aubrey joked at the math teacher's expense.
"Really?" Ashley inquires as her hands folded on the table.
"That remind ya of that Mr. Adam's prick?" Aubrey asked with her arms crossed.
"Not really. Does she go on tangents about toughening up her kids for the real world?" Ashley asked.
"No. She's just a no-nonsense bitch who doesn't give kids a moment's glance other than for them to turn in their work," Aubrey said after rolling her eyes.
"Damn. Ya know, some asshats just shouldn't be teachers," Shadow Bird interjects. Aubrey, being unable to help herself, began talking with the team in a whispering voice.
"Ok, so I also heard Ariana and Vivian one time talk about how she sleeps around to get by on her crappy lifestyle." Ashley and Shadow Bird couldn't help but giggle immaturely yet they're wise enough to keep it quiet between the three of them. Jayden and Asori didn't really pay attention to this conversation due to them being genuinely uninterested in what was on their dirty minds.
"Seriously?" Ashley blurts out just when she found her words.
"I don't know. Why else would she be at Mr. Taylor's house other than for... school purposes?" Ashley and Shadow Bird begin giggling once again but only for a little while before they all clear their throats in order to drink their bottomless sodas now just delivered to them.
"Here you go, guys," The young lady around their age tell them just before giving the team their probably well-deserved drinks. Before she does, however, she pushes a button on the bottom of the tray that makes the tray's bottom form into a stand strong enough to hold the already heavy weight on her shoulders.
"Thanks, Heather," Jayden said just after he'd been given his Pepsi.
"How've you been since that vacation of yours?" Asori asks genuinely before being given her drink after Shadow bird is given his.
"Ohh, ya know. Just happy I'm back at work," Heather said her last sentence in a sing-song type of voice.
"Well, keep it up," Asori said casually before she took a sip of a Dr. Pepper. This made her genuinely happy as obvious from her gleaming face.
"Thanks, guys," Heather said before the tray is taken from its former place and back to the kitchen.
"Aunt Viv's job goin' good?" Ashley questions after she takes a gulp of her drink.
"Yeah," Aubrey said in the middle of sipping her Mountain Dew.
"Though she's obviously wanting a break this weekend, so I'm gonna be chillin' with her and Ariana like I said I would," Aubrey said just after putting her drink down.
"Well, be sure to tell her hi for us," Asori said in a positive manner.
"Well, hello to us," Shadow Bird quips as everyone chuckles while lunch is served with water.
"Make sure you guys drink plenty of water for the buffalo and garlic sauces. It'll get pretty saucy and spicy," Nevin quips positively.
"Will do, Nevin," Jayden told the waiter.
"Yeah, thanks Nevin," Ashley said. The eating is nothing special. In fact, why should it be? Dustin's food is just that good that it doesn't need an explanation. The burgers are perfectly cooked, the fries and sauce variety gives the diner a great name and it overall feels like a great place to have gracious meals. A whole twenty minutes go by before the team exits the diner with satisfied full stomachs.
"God, that was amazing!" Ashley exclaims.
"I know, right?" Asori remarked in joy. Shadow Bird lets out a belch from the three sodas he got for free. Thank you, free refills. A certain mother and daughter duo soon enter the scene with a familiar nervous voice calling out to them.
"Excuse me, A-Alta Heroes?" The team looks at the little girl with friendly faces which unintentionally makes her even more nervous. Backing away only slightly, she only gets firm encouragement from her mother to not give this opportunity up.
"Come on. Remember what Ms. Alysia taught you," The mom whispered in her ear. This causes the young girl to take a deep breath before she looks at her heroes with a more relaxed face.
"May I please have your autographs?" She requests. Smiling, Jayden takes his pen out and kneeled down to her level.
"Where do you want us to sign?" Jayden asks the little girl. Giggling, the little girl gives him the notepad she has for her therapy sessions. All five teens signed in their own unique ways. Jayden's signing is a signature with his pen drawn in a small fashion as if the miniature pen was drawing the words. Ashley's words of encouragement had fire on the bottom of the first and letter of the first word and the first and last letter of the last word. Shadow Bird's sly words are sly, nothing more. Aubrey simply told the girl to keep livin' life at her pace. Asori simply, like Ashley except with nothing special on any of the words, encourages her to keep up her therapy sessions.
"Thank you!" The little girl says as she and her mom walk away from them in happy comradery. This is after waving to the team for the final time during which they wave back at them of course.
"Mommy's so proud of you!" The woman squealed while holding her little girl. Chuckling a bit, the Star Wars geek cheeks her phone to see the arcade they've been wanting to go to all day is ready for them.
"Arcade time?" Jayden asks his team. He only gets a loud and excited response from all four of his teammates.
"Arcade time!" All four shout before fist-bumping with their leader, all five teens stoked for what incredible gaming is to come.
