Once she made it to the house she tugged hard at the door handle and the weighty wooden door opened slowly as she slipped through the opening and into the house, the door closing behind her again. Her father was already seated at the dinner table, eating through a big plate of different assortments of meats. Her mother otherwise occupied with her newest priority in the centre of their house, her yellow and grey Deadly Nadder. She was playing with the dragon inside the house, playing catch and throwing a ball around the room as the dragon crashed through the house and the furniture trying to catch it; various assortments of weapons mounted on the walls falling to the ground, clattering loudly as they fell on top of each other. The dragons' sharp claws tear up their yak skin carpet that was set under a small table. And in an instance, one of its talents is caught onto the carpet and yanked it hard from under the table, causing it to shift and with it some nostalgic items like a ceramic pot Ices had made for her parents when she was younger. It was misshapen and barely functioned besides being used as a base and held a single tulip. Ices watched as the pot fell to the ground and shattered before her eyes. The pieces scattered across the floor, topped by the single tulip. But then disturbing its serenity, the Nadder carelessly runs through the carnaged pot and stomps over the flower. Crushing it under its weight and turning the rest of the pieces of the pot into fine crumbs.
However, as Ices turns to see her mother's expression, expecting to see the same level of frustration as she felt. Her mother was unfazed by the act and continued to play and encourage the dragon as she could see her dad in the corner of her eye, still sitting by himself at the dinner table eating and taking no notice of anything else that was happening around him, despite the loud crashing noises. Ices hadn't come home for more than 5 minutes but the house was already in disarray. She grumbled in frustration rolling her eyes, taking no time at all to scold her family as she already knew that in doing so she would only create an argument that would put the dragon in a more favoured light than her. In turn, she simply grabbed a plate from the cupboard, took some pieces of meat from her dad's plate who simply glanced up at her without saying a word and calmly continued eating as Ices took her plate upstairs to go eat in her room.
She sat at a table in her room and hunched over her plate as she took a chicken leg from her plate and held it in her hand, holding it up to her mouth when the whole house shook because of another crash from downstairs. Ices turned around from her desk toward the stairs seeing the shadow of the drawing going back and forth across the wall. She shook her head with a disgusted expression as she scoffed in a befitting tone "It's a wild animal, for the love of Thor. One of these days it's going to break our house apart" She spoke to herself, since she was the only one that would ever listen to what she had to say about the situation. She took a bite from the meat before sighing and losing her appetite thinking back to the broken pot and how she remembered giving it to her parents and how hard she worked on it as a child, and how easily it broke and her parents didn't even bat an eyelash. The thought of how little her token showing her love to her parents trying to make something for them, even if it was misshapen meant to them, saddened her deeply. She put the meat back onto the plate and got up with it. She walked toward the window of her room and tossed the meat out of the window carelessly but it wasn't wasted because almost as soon as she tossed it out a couple of Terrible Terrors flew in to snatch the meat midair and carried it off.
Ices went back to her desk and placed her plate onto it before she walked over to her bed and lay down in it looking up at the ceiling briefly with sorrowful eyes. Closing them she exhaled crookedly while she turned over onto her side, pulling the blanket over her to try and fall asleep while the noise continued to go on for a while from downstairs before she could finally fall asleep.
Ices skips a rock over the lake in the cove grunting aggressively as she does, frustrated with the dragons that have by now begun roaming the village by themselves freely for a good few weeks now.
"You know they're not that bad, right? They'll just take some getting used to" Katarina said, sitting on a rock behind her on the shore by the lake as Ices stood in the lake with her pants rolled up to her knees standing in the water. Ices turned around and looked at her and scoffed sarcastically, tossing up a small stone in the air.
"We do live in the same village right? Have you seen the state of our village? It's already been weeks, since they've started living with us and I had to walk past 2 houses that were on fire on my way here. Granted one of them was the Twins' but you get my point.. I think the period of getting used to them has expired." Ices said as she stood side on to skip another rock.
"You'd think that our great dragon master would have figured out how to control them by now" Katarina said with a sigh.
"Well he is trying his best you know. And like you said, it's only been since a few weeks ago since the dragons here were wild and feral. And you have to admit things have been getting a bit better around here lately, even if it is slow progress. And for the most part, the dragons are bringing out the best in the people of Berk. You'll see, things will get better." Katarina says to her with a hopeful expression with the corresponding tone in her voice. Believing her own words wholeheartedly. Kori stays turned away from her friend as she replies to her in a monotone voice.
"And what if they don't?"
Katarina looks at her for a moment with concern that her words didn't touch Ices' heart as much as she had hoped. She gave a faint shrug with a concerned smile, "You're just gonna have to believe they will."
Ices did not reply to her only imagining all the ways the dragons staying could still go wrong.
Katarina speaks again "Come on, it's probably time we head back."
