— in the darkness there will be light, two lost souls in a starlit night.
A GENTLE BREEZE blew Jo's tangled hair behind her as she walked. She had just finished running groceries for Heyward and was on her way back to the chateau, eager to catch up with her friends and especially JJ. Just thinking about the blonde boy made her heart race and her stomach erupt with butterflies.
The brunette was walking along the docks by the water, just enjoying the scenery and the nice summer day. She sighed in content and a small smile graced her face. Despite her hatred for the way things were set up in the Outer Banks and how horrible the Kooks were, she loved her home. The views were unmatched in her opinion and no one could change her mind.
A shadow loomed over her as she walked and Jo turned her head in confusion. Her expression quickly morphed into one of annoyance when she saw none other than Rafe and Topper blocking her path. She sighed upon noticing they were shirtless, probably having just finished working out. When the two of them cornered her, nothing good ever came out of it.
"Rafe. Topper." Jo drawled their names and raised her eyebrows expectantly.
"You got any more beer for us?" Rafe asked. He wore the same smug smirk he always did, the one that made Jo want to punch him.
"Nope," Jo deadpanned. "Your parents are filthy rich, why can't you just buy it yourselves?"
"Well, taking it from dirty Pogues is way more fun," Rafe said. It was as if he was silently challenging the girl to talk back, but Jo wasn't afraid in the slightest. She'd been dealing with these morons since she was little.
"How noble of you," Jo murmured.
"Come on," Rafe huffed. He was getting irritated now. "Just give us some beer."
"Are you deaf?" Jo retorted. "I said I don't have any."
"Then go find some," Rafe growled. "Before I have to teach you a lesson." He shoved Jo backwards slightly and she clenched her hands into fists.
"You kiss your mother with that mouth?" Jo snapped, stepping forward again. In all honestly she had no idea where the Cameron's mother was. All she knew was that their stepmom lived with them.
This comment set Rafe off. "You don't talk to me like that!" A rage Jo had never seen before lit in his eyes and he shoved Jo again. She grabbed his arms to try and deter him, but Rafe was much stronger. "You hear me?" He shouted. "You don't talk about her!" He continued to push her until she reached the edge of the dock, with Topper following behind.
"Show her, Rafe!" He bellowed.
Rafe pushed Jo into the water. She had just enough time to take a deep breath before her head went under, saving her from a coughing fit as she resurfaced. She hadn't noticed both boys jump into the water as well; as soon as her head bobbed up, Topper pushed it back down. Now taken by surprise, Jo sucked in a mouthful of water. She fought against the boys and resurfaced again, gasping and coughing to try and empty her lungs. Rafe swam forward and pushed her under again, this time both boys holding her down. Jo felt the air running out as she kicked and fought. Her lungs burned and her head began to throb. There was no way they would actually drown her. Or so she hoped.
