— she's a strong woman. but every once in a while she would like someone to hold her hand and tell her things are going to be okay.

JO GIGGLED AS she sauntered up to JJ. They were throwing one of their usual parties at the Boneyard and Jo was starting to feel the affects of the alcohol she'd been drinking. She felt all giddy and bubbly, a common occurrence when she was drunk.

"Hey, babe," JJ chuckled and wrapped his arm around her shoulders. Jo only responded with a small hum and nuzzled her head in the crook of his neck. The blonde boy smiled at the affection and squeezed her a little tighter. "Having fun?"

"I am now," Jo murmured.

JJ glanced down at her and let his eyes flicker to her lips. The lust was evident in the expression he wore, but Jo didn't notice in her tipsy state. Even if she had though, she wouldn't mind. Since her and JJ got together, his lustful looks at her weren't uncommon.

"Oohh," JJ murmured, smirking. He lowered his head and connected their lips together. Both parties smiled into the kiss until Jo pulled away much too soon. JJ let out a quiet breath and nearly shuddered at the loss of contact. When he opened his eyes he saw Jo staring up at him with a knowing look. She loved to tease him.

"I've gotta get another drink," she hummed innocently. JJ scoffed and lifted his hand to tuck a stray strand of hair behind the brunette's ear.

"Sure," he chuckled.

Jo flashed him a dazzling smile and made her way back to the keg that her and Kie had gotten from one of the locals. They always flirted their way into getting alcohol, one of the benefits of having girls in the Pogue clique.

As she filled her cup up with the familiar beer, Jo let her eyes wander the darkening beach. The waves lapped at the sand in the distance, but she could barely hear it over the sound of the music and people's enthusiastic chatter. Just as Jo turned to head back to JJ, she bumped into someone else.

"Oh, sorry," she giggled. Heat flooded her cheeks out of embarrassment due to her clumsy and tipsy state, but any remorse she may have had left her system as she lifted her head. She found herself staring up Kelce, one of richest Kooks on the island. Of course, he was best friends with Rafe and Topper.

Jo sighed and quickly let the smile fall from her face. The Kooks have flirted with her and Kie many a time, despite their claim to hate the Pogues. Regardless, she didn't want to give Kelce any reason to think he'd have a shot with her that night.

Unfortunately, Kelce seemed to think his odds were good. Why? Jo had no idea. But the Kooks were used to getting what they wanted, so maybe that was the reason. She instinctively stepped back as Kelce inched closer to her.

"Hey, Jo," he said in a cheery voice. Despite the alcohol coursing through Jo's system, she took note of the way his eyes raked her body.

"Hi," she said flatly. She moved to walk past him, but Kelce side stepped in front of her to block her exit.

"You, uh, look a little flushed," Kelce said. A smirk hid behind the fake concern plastered across his face as he placed his hands on Jo's shoulders. She made a face of annoyance and swatted them away.

"I'm fine," she deadpanned. Jo took another step away from Kelce and tried to go around him again, but he refused to give up his persuit.

"Are you sure? I can give you a ride home if you want," Kelce offered. He inched even closer to Jo and let his hand trail down her arm. Her breath hitched in her throat and she swallowed thickly as she tried to push past him again, but Kelce just grabbed her upper arm.

"Stop," Jo snapped. "Just leave me alone."

"Oh, come on," Kelce sighed. His concern for her dropped from his face and a new, annoyed expression replaced it. "Don't be such a tease."

Jo scoffed and shrugged Kelce's hands off her body. "A tease? You approached me," she snapped, folding her arms over her chest. "I said leave me alone."

Kelce huffed in frustration but Jo shoved him back before he could do anything else. He stumbled in the sand slightly, only growing more agitated. Jo made another move to rush past him but Kelce gripped her arm again and yanked her back around to face him.

"Seriously, stop it!" Jo said, raising her voice. The last thing she wanted to do was cause a scene, but she knew if one of the boys heard her then they would come running.

JJ's head snapped up at the sound of Jo's voice. After a moment of scanning the many faces gathered at the Boneyard, he spotted her near Kelce. JJ immediately noticed the way Kelce was holding onto Jo and he was fuming within seconds. JJ stalked over to the pair and shoved Kelce away from Jo, pulling her behind him in a protective manner.

"I think she told you to stop," JJ growled.

"She's just playing hard to get," Kelce argued with a smirk. Jo scoffed and folded her arms over her chest.

JJ sighed angrily and turned away from Kelce. For a moment Jo thought that maybe he was just going to leave, until JJ spun back around and punched Kelce across the jaw. The rich boy staggered on his feet as his hand flew to his face and soon enough the boys were in a full on fist-fight. Jo watched on from the sidelines helplessly, not knowing what to do. Kelce got the upper hand suddenly and sent JJ to the ground.

"Stop it!" Jo cried as Kelce kicked the blonde in the ribs.

The fight had attracted the majority of the teens' attention by now and John B was shoving his way to the front of the crowd. Jo looked around anxiously for anything she could use to her advantage; she'd fought several of the Kooks before, but using only her fists never did much good in the long run. Her eyes landed on a large stick nearby and she made haste to grab it. Kelce was about to deliver another blow to JJ's side when Jo swung the stick over his back and knocked him to the ground as well.

"Fuck off, asshole!" She shouted angrily.

John B dropped down to the sand beside JJ and helped him up to his feet as Kelce just glared at Jo. She huffed and hurled the stick at him, narrowly missing hitting him in the head. Jo didn't care though; her main concern now was JJ.

As the crowd slowly dispersed and Kelce finally backed off, Jo followed closely after her brother and watched as JJ fell onto a log and brought his hand up to his eye.

"Are you okay?" Jo asked worriedly. She knelt down in front of JJ and he nodded, any evidence of pain immediately leaving his face the second his eyes locked on hers.

"I'm fine," he said sincerely. "I'll be damned if I ever let someone touch you like that. He didn't do anything, did he?"

Jo chuckled half-heartedly and pushed her hair out of her eyes. "No," she assured him, resting her hand on his leg. JJ smiled and gently laced his hands with hers, pulling her closer to him so that she was between his legs. Jo felt the familiar butterflies in her stomach take flight as JJ's hands slid down to her hips and she let her hands cup his face.

"God, I love you," JJ murmured as he admired how beautiful Jo looked in the pale moonlight.

"Okay, I'm, uh, gonna go find some ice or some shit," John B muttered. He didn't mind that Jo and JJ were dating, but he hated it when they got like this around him or the others. Then it was just awkward.

Jo rolled her eyes, thankful JJ couldn't see the fact that she was blushing. He loved to compliment her and get her all flustered so that he could tease her about it and Jo hated giving him that satisfaction.

"I guess you're okay," she drawled, a teasing smirk evident on her lips.

JJ scoffed and shook his head. His grip around her waist tightened as he pulled her even closer to him and pressed his lips to hers once more. "You're mine," he whispered in the brief moment they parted for air.

Jo giggled breathily and pressed a chaste kiss to JJ's cheek. "Trust me, I know."
