They had given me something to calm me down while they checked me for injuries, so I had passed out. When I awoke, I was in a hospital bed. "Where am I? Where's my Mom?" A nurse rushed in. "Hi there honey, how are you feeling?"

I ignored her question. "WHERE IS MY MOM YOU DUMBHEAD?" She looked shocked, but then her face changed to a look of sympathy. "I-I'm sorry sweetie. She...didn't make it. She's dead." Those words felt like a stab in the heart. I began hyperventilating and sobbing. My vision began going blurry. I vaguely heard someone yell "Her pressure's dropping! " and "Code blue!" before everything went black.

When I opened my eyes, I had a tube down my throat. I began choking, and another nurse ran in and took it out carefully. "Can you breathe on your own?" I nodded. Then I remembered. "THAT OTHER NURSE WAS LYING! MY MOM ISN'T DEAD! MOMMY? MOMMY?!" She tried to calm me but I was thrashing and screaming. He brought out a needle, jabbed it in my arm and everything went dark again.

The next time I awoke, a third nurse was standing at the ready with a giant needle. I had Trypanophobia, so I gulped and tried to remain calm. "Excuse me?" My voice was hoarse. "Yes, dear?" "Could you please hide that needle behind your back? I have Trypanophobia." She held it out of sight and said: "My gosh, you're a smart poppet aren't you?"

"I read dictionaries when my parents figh-" I stopped, and she looked at me sympathetically. "My Mom, she's definitely dead isn't she?" "I'm afraid so," she said with a sad look on her face. I felt numb. "But your father is in the waiting room!" "M-my father?" I was so confused. Had my father come to meet me for the first time?

The nurse opened the door a crack and called someone in. But the person who entered was my stepfather. I felt rage bubbling up inside me. "Get him out." The nurse looked confused. "I-" "GET HIM OUT!" He walked over to me. "I'm sorry," he said to the nurse. "She's probably disoriented after her injury. He winked at the nurse and she blushed. "Of course."

A doctor walked in. "Congratulations! You're getting discharged. Sign these papers and you can take her home." My heart stopped. "Home...with him?" "Yes." "No! I won't, I won't, I won't!" MY stepfather signed the papers, they took me off the drip and he yanked me out of there while I kicked and screamed.
