Echo's POV
January 22nd, Sunday

I'm brought out of my sleep when I hear voices whispering a short distance away. I feel around with my hand that is hidden by a blanket. Kai is still next to me and my hand touched his stomach. So I must just be hearing voices. I close my eyes once again, trying to fall back to sleep. But then the voices become clearer as they talk.

"Should we wake them?" The voice I recognize as my roommate -Izzy- asks. Nobody says anything for a few seconds before they finally talk.

"Nah. They look cute. Plus I don't think I've ever seen Echo cuddle with the opposite gender unless you count our dad and older brothers who forced her into family bonding hugs." The other voice says with a chuckle. I immediately recognize as my younger sister Evie's voice.

I shoot up from my lying position on the bed, startling both of them. Kai must have realized something was wrong when he immediately shot up as well. He blinks away the sleep from his eyes before examining the room. His eyes dart between both Izzy and Evie before turning to me slightly confused.

"They must've fixed the locks but we slept through the announcement. Izzy must have returned not long after the news was of the locks being fixed, and that's when she called Evie -my sister- to come over." I look at Evie and Izzy who're nodding their head slowly.

"Ahh. Ok. Uhm. Hi Izzy. Nice to meet you, Evie, I'm Kai, Echo's-" He pauses and turns to me, I nod my head yes. "I'm Echo's boyfriend, Kai Wells!" He says with a proud smile. I look at both Evie and Izzy's reactions. Their mouths open in shock.

"Boyfriend?! How? It's only been a week and Echo doesn't like people let-alone get along with them!" Evie says with her eyes wide. "I mean obviously I'm happy that Echo has a boyfriend, but I'm just shocked we don't have to call an ambulance to come and get him because my sister jammed her foot into his balls for looking at her weird!' Evie finishes with a chuckle. I turn towards Kai who's face paled. He looks at me with a pout.

"Would y-you have k-kicked me t-there if you d-d-didn't like me?" He stutters with fear evident in his eyes. I smile while nodding my head.

"Be happy I liked you when I opened that door last Sunday. I knew you were a nice guy just by the feeling you gave off!" I smile while leaving a small kiss on the tip of his nose before getting up from the bed. I turn towards Evie who is smirking widely.

"Don't tell mom yet. Also, I read the first book in The 100 series and I read Flipped." I say. She nods before the realization of what I had just told her set in.

"YOU READ A BOOK?!" She burst out. I chuckle but nod my head yes.

We talked for another 30 minutes before Evie left to go to our parents' house where she still currently lives. Izzy crashed on her bed and fell asleep. She said that staying at her parents' house for a week and having to listen to her sister yell her toddler lungs out was not something she wants to experience again. She was too tired to say any more about her stay with her parents, other than "I don't know how they haven't duck tapped that kids mouth shut.".

Kai and I left and are currently on our way to the animal shelter in his car. I turn and look out the window, realizing that I missed seeing the overly loud and busy streets. I turn my focus to Kai who has a smile wanting to break through his lips.

"So why exactly are we going to the animal shelter? Not that I'm complaining! But do I get to play with the dogs by any chance?" I ask curiously. Kai quickly glances at me before returning his attention to the road ahead.

"We're going to the shelter cause I know what I want to do for the one assignment on the list, and yes, you get to play with the dogs." He responds before turning left into a small parking lot. "We're here," Kai says before shutting the car off and opening his door, and quickly coming around to my side and opening my door as well.
