"Annabeth, turn the light off please." Percy groaned.
"No." Annabeth scowled.
Percy sighed and rolled to face Annabeth. "Why not? It's way too bright, I can't sleep."
"Just close your eyes."
Percy huffed and checked the clock. 1:34 am
Annabeth curled herself into a ball, making her seem smaller and fragile.
"Turn the light off. Please?" Percy tried again.
She met his ocean eyes, "I can't."
Percy stopped. 'I cant?' Was there something physically wrong with her that she can't get up and turn the light off?
"Fine." He sighed, "I'll do it myself." And he pulled the sheet off of himself, walking across the wooden floors.
"No!" Annabeth shrieked. Percy spun back around and saw her stormy gray eyes flooded with terror, pleading with him to not turn the light off. Tears had formed in her eyes as well, and she was trembling.
"What? Why, is something wrong?"
Percy sat back down on the bed and Annabeth was fiddling with a strand of her golden curls. Percy grabbed her hand from her hair and she looked at him in the eyes. Gray on green.
"I'm scared of the dark." Annabeth's voice was barely a whisper, but the words hit Percy like a wave crashing over him, drowning him in regret.
Percy choked on his words, "Oh, gods Beth I'm... since when?"
Tears rolled down the girl's cheeks, "Since I was blinded, by the... the monsters. And- and I couldn't see you, or," She stuttered, "or feel you, or hear you-" Annabeth was cut off by her own sob or sorrow as she remembered the worst minute of her life.
Percy immediately hugged her, her frail shuddering frame. "Annabeth I'm so sorry I should've known-"
"There was no way you could have known, Percy. I don't blame you." She said. The blonde burrowed her head into Percy's neck, letting tears flow.
Percy kissed her head and played with her curls, letting her cry into his shoulder. He would occasionally whisper that it's okay, that they were out of there, that he handled the monsters amazingly (which was not true, they both knew it but it made her chuckle.)
Annabeth tilted her head up to look at Percy's eyes again. Percy met her's and kissed her forehead, then the tip of her nose, then her lips, all soft but meaningful kisses.
The daughter of Athena untangled her arms from her boyfriend's neck and laid back down, Percy laid back down next to her, closer than before. He wrapped his arms around Annabeth tucked his head over hers, making her feel safe.
"I love you, Beth. I'm sorry I didn't catch on quicker, I'm a little slow." He joked.
Annabeth laughed softly into his chest. "I love you too, Percy."
And they fell asleep, the light no longer bothering Percy as he knew it was comforting Annabeth, and that is the only thing that matters to him. That Annabeth is okay.
Well, that and blue food.
