KIDA SANDHU IS READY FOR ANOTHER YEAR AT REPUBLIC CITY UNIVERSITY. Or, at least she thought she was.
At first, everything seemed to be falling perfectly into place: she got a nice place to live on campus, a decent job at the local coffee shop, and people she knows will always have her back. Kida hoped for enough time between school and work to make some wild memories with her friends, fall in love a little, and maybe write a screenplay for that movie she's always wanted to make, if she's brave enough. That isn't much too ask from a typical college experience, is it?
Yet, when life seems simple, everything suddenly becomes a whole lot more complicated in unexpected ways.
Like, the fact that the engineering major with those ocean blue eyes, which would be dreamy if he wasn't so damn annoying, suddenly becomes a bigger part of Kida's life than she hoped he ever would. Add that to the reality that Kida getting along with Sokka is essentially tied to her best friend's happiness, and you've got one hell of a mess.
Or, the fact that Suki happens to move into the same building as Kida, which would be fine if Suki wasn't the girl who (a) is one of the best friends Kida's made since starting college, (b) has a boyfriend back home, and (c) Kida is almost certainly in love with. An even bigger mess.
Well, if there's one thing Kida would remember from this year, it's that life can have more plot twists than a thriller and be twice as dramatic as, well, a romantic drama; but with cliches and heartfelt moments straight out of a coming-of-age movie, everything might just be worthwhile.

full disclosure: i am incredibly excited to write this fic. i really miss my friends and school starts tomorrow and i'm all nostalgic and day-dreamy so, yes, i'm projecting onto this story. i also love the atla characters, so it's really the perfect combination. there are going to be tons of cliches/tropes, including but not limited to: enemies to friends to lovers, found family, seemingly unrequited crushes, and probably more but i don't want to spoil more than i already have. basically, i know that this story is extremely cliche at times but that's sort of what i'm going for. i feel like this will be a nice foil to my other atla fic, hidden dragon, which became WAY more intense than i anticipated.
also, just some legal stuff: i do not own the avatar characters or universe, i am just a very big fan!

hey, readers!
i decided to republish and change a few things about this fic: (1) kida is now a film major instead of an english major and (2) the overall aesthetic leans more towards light academia instead of dark! it makes more sense for the outline of the plot i have so far, and another reason for these changes is that im thinking of writing another fic, sort of like a dead poets' society wlw au, which will be all ~dark academia~ and literary references.
