Slowly coming to, it was dark. He had no idea how long he had been sleeping, but Brian knew It was time. Brian walked in the direction of where the town was. Apparently there was not much for a night life here, because he hardly saw any lights on in any of the buildings or houses. A few scattered street lights illuminated parts of the roads and sidewalks. Brian stuck to the shadows. He did not notice anyone outside, and did not once see or hear a car driving around. This was strange to Brian, everywhere he had ever lived, there was always somebody out and about at all hours of the night.

"Maybe the military implemented a curfew on the community, or maybe they are just very old fashioned" thought Brian.

It was not a very big town, similar to the last one he had been in. Just a few blocks that Brian had to wander around before he found the street that Beth's office was on. Brian checked his surroundings and slowly made his approach to the building. He started getting nervous, what was he going to tell Beth and how was she going to be able to help him? What if he gets caught again? There was no way he could endure another day in that cell of torture. The coast was clear and Brian went up to one of the side windows of the office. He noticed a light was on in one of the rooms, but he couldn't see in well enough to tell if someone was in there. Walking around the building, he found a back door. Brian knew he couldn't just knock on the door and expect Beth to be glad to see him. He also didn't want to take any chances of someone else being there, or a neighbor hearing him knock on the door. Brian reached up and tried the door knob. To his surprise it was open. Quietly opening the door, Brian crept inside and closed it behind him.

"Beth..." Brian quietly did the yell whisper.

There was no response. Brian walked a little further into the building, towards the room with the light on.

"Beth, are you in here?" Brian asked again.

Brian approached the half open door of the room, as he peered in, he saw Beth sitting back to the door with head phones on. Walking up behind her, she didn't even notice he was there, that was until he put his hand on her shoulder. She jumped and screamed, Brian tried to shush her and she calmed down once she recognized it was him.

"What are you doing here Brian? Everyone is looking for you, this isn't safe for you to be here" asked Beth."You are the only person in this world that can help me, there is no evidence of my existence, I have no money, no family or friends, no one at all to help me out of this situation" explained Brian."I already risked my life and career to get you out of that cell, what more do you want from me?" Beth responded, now irritated by Brian's demand."Tell them you know me, tell that what happened to us and why we are in this mess. I am being hunted like a wild animal, I have been tortured, chased through the woods, almost sexually assaulted, and I have nowhere to go" Brian answered."It isn't fair to have your life so out of control, is it? I was ripped from my normal life when you were so greedy about getting fame and fortune. I have done all I can to help you at this point." said Beth."If you can't convince them of who I am, then we need to run the reactor again. I know that you are still working on it, it is the only hope I have of getting my life back to as normal as it can be" pleaded Brian."I have an amazing life in this world. All the military resources I need, unlimited funding for my research, top secret clearance on state of the art military technology. Why would I jeopardize this to appease you Brian?" Beth asked, now quite frustrated with Brian's presence."I have made mistakes, I have been selfish, but even you admitted that it was not fair how I was treated. They will never stop looking for me and there are probably dozens of other people across the world that woke up naked, helpless and now being detained and probably treated worse than I was" said Brian, now breaking down in tears."I feel for you Brian, but I couldn't turn on the reactor if I tried. When I woke up in this new world the military had the reactor and I am in charge of trying to get it to work. We are close, but we have not been able to get it to work" explained Beth."Maybe you can convince them that I can help, we have figured it out together before, we can do it again. We have to try Beth, it's my only hope" Brian said."The military is convinced that you are here to try and steal the technology, other countries have been trying to infiltrate our military facility. I can try and talk to the officers, but there is a chance that they will just throw you back in the cell and try and break you" Beth responded."I am willing to take that chance, I can't keep living in fear and running for my life" urged Brian. He approached Beth and tried to give her a hug, she reluctantly accepted. Brian melted into her arms as Beth rigidly stood there, not reciprocating the affection.
