Principal Nezu was a dangerous creature. He was one of the rare cases of an animal developing a quirk, not to mention an intelligence quirk. He was observant, mysterious, and played his cards close to his chest.

No one quite knew what he was - a bear? a rat? a dog perhaps? He let everyone believe what they wanted to. No one was exactly sure what he wanted, what he aspired for, either. He was a hero, that much everyone knew.

(Or at least hoped.)

But what his goal was? He never told anyone.

He was Aizawa Shōta's mentor, helped him become the person he now is. He was one of the main reasons for Aizawa's sharp mind and quick reflexes.

(And he was exceptionally proud of it.)

What both friends and foes failed to notice though, was that sometimes the student can turn out smarter, better, than their teacher.

Aizawa didn't mind, not at all. He'd rather stay in the background. Let them underestimate him, it'd only end up working in his favor.

Nezu was proud of how far he had gotten with his understanding of a human's feelings and actions. Just a few years ago he hated them. Every last one of them, for what they did to him.

(He honestly still did, but he couldn't run around killing every human in sight, could he?)

The only human he never did manage to understand was his mentee, Aizawa. The man was similar to him and yet the polar opposite. Nezu sometimes acted more on hatred and revenge than he did on logic and thought, while Aizawa never let his hate cloud his judgment.

(He had made the mistake once, he wouldn't it again.)

Nezu made attempts to get on people's better sides, acted friendly despite his hate. Aizawa never bothered. If people couldn't accept that, they weren't worth the bother. He had everything he needed, and people who wanted him to change weren't a part of that list.

People failed to notice the true danger. They were focused on Nezu, on his intelligence, and on how easy it would be for him to turn to the villains. They didn't bother with Aizawa, the real threat. He wasn't worth their time so they let him be.

(He was more than happy with that.)

Aizawa stayed in the shadows, he observed quietly, got the information he needed, and waited patiently for the right moment to strike.

(Good things come to those who wait.)

He acted like a snake patiently waiting in the grass for his opponent to make a wrong move, to let their guard down. Then he strikes. He doesn't make unnecessary hits, those can wait for when his opponents can't defend themselves anymore. Then - and only then - would he allow himself to have a little bit of fun.

When Nezu first met Aizawa, he saw himself in him. Well, not quite himself, Aizawa was after all a human, but someone close enough to his way of thinking to seem interesting.

(He didn't want to think about what would have happened had he not taken Aizawa under his wing - paw?)

He saw Aizawa for what he was; A mirror. If broken, you could choose the part that worked best for you the rest could go to trash.

And so he started training him. He taught him his way of thinking, how to mislead, how to analyze, and play pretend. What he didn't realize was that Aizawa became smarter, stronger than him. That Aizawa realized what he had planned. Aizawa wouldn't let himself be broken into a million pieces just to end up with the best part of himself.

And so he pretended. He pretended to break, pretended to get better again, pretended to be perfect. He pretended until he didn't have to anymore, until his training with Nezu was over. Then he started showing the real him.

It was too late for Nezu to do anything when he realized. And soo he watched. Watched as his mentee stopped pretending, watched as he noticed his mistakes. Nezu could do nothing but watch as the real threat to the world was ignored by the world, their focus on those who did the most obvious or least damage.

No one took not of Aizawa. Why should they? After all, he was just the boring Underground hero who had to fight quirkless. He wasn't a danger to society.

And so he watched them   c r u m b l e.

Crumble because of their mistakes, because of their obliviousness.

And he   l a u g h t e d.

A/N

Hey, I don't know if this turned out as good as I hoped but anyways. I had this idea in my head for literal ages and decided to just go for it.

I don't know when I'll update my other book because I have literally no idea how to continue. I'll either post some more oneshots or I'll be inactive for a while.

Thanks,
Jenna.
